Hitch goes goth.

"Rebecca" is one of the finest films of the 1940's, and features Joan Fontaine as the second mistress of Manderley, forever living in the shadow of her mysterious predecessor. Lawrence Olivier is perhaps detached in his performance, but nevertheless embodies the master of Manderley as few others of his generation could. "Rebecca" also contains the paranoia, suspense, and dreamlike mood that would color much of director Alfred Hitchcock's later work, yet stands apart as a perfect example of gothic romance.

Classic film--one of the best
Added 9/12/2009
This is one of my favorite all-time films. It's the first Alfred Hitchcock American film and the suspense and photography are wonderful. Joan Fontaine is the perfect "victim" and Laurence Olivier is her excellent counterpart. I bought this for a friend who loves old movies. It's a "must see" at least 5 or more times!

Hitchcock at his best

Larry O was brilliant in this classic Hitchcock black and whiter. Joan Fontaine has been one of our favorite leading ladies since falling in love with her in the 1939 epic, also a black and whiter, Gunga Din.
In Gunga Din, Fountaine tries to land Doug Fairbanks Jr. for her husband...however, Cary Grant and Victor McLauglen would rather like to have him remain a British Soldier with them.
GUNGA DIN, a 5-star 1939 classic movie...the same year as Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of OZ, also 5-star movies in our opinion...
but don't miss watching Fountaine and Olivier in Rebecca. You will be sitting on the edge of your chair engrossed in the story of this brilliant Hitchcock epic.

This movie is about one of my favorite classic books. It is a very well done version of the book with supurb acting and casting. The dialoge is very close to the origional book and keeps a good pace. It is a very good movie.
