Plot: When Claire (Linda Kozlowski) learns her grandmother has been bilked out of $50,000 by the crooked televangelists Ray (Tim Curry) and Darla Porter (Annie Potts), she recruits her redneck boyfriend Jesse (Bill Paxton) to help recover the money. They travel to the Tower of Bethlehem deep in the Arkansas woods to break into the studio and hold the hosts of the show hostage. This timely comedy came in the wake of scandals involving real-life televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker and Jimmy I Have Sinned Swaggert. Neil Cohen and Joel Cohen wrote the screenplay. ~ Dan Pavlides, All Movie Guide

One of the greatest sleepers of all time!! :)&-=

Mitch wasn't a person who laughed aloud. So when I heard him laughing aloud when I walked up on his porch I knew I wanted to see whatever movie was on. Come to find out he'd been watching it over and over for hours!! And now that I've seen it myself at least twenty times - all I can say is if you haven't seen this movie, you haven't seen one of the funniest movies ever made. I believe this is the way God sees all bad guys, the crooks and the crooked ministers alike, with compassion and humor. You've never met such a mess of wonderful and lovable bad guys in your whole life. :) Have a moonpie and enjoy the greatest little movie from the past you've never seen before. :))

one of my favourites from the 80s. a little tweaking here and there might have polished it a bit, bit overall, it is an overlooked gem. little Arnold, show-stealer, Big Jim's policeman song, Stonewall - every bit of lovely satire on the televangelist subject is touched upon. i only wish they had released a soundtrack - some of that music is awesome!

Success is achieving and perhaps surpassing your goals. The goals of movies are entertain, entertain, entertain. This movie entertains to the max, which makes it successful. Anyone can dig into anything deep enough to find faults. Pass the Ammo, will, make you laugh to tears unless of course you forget its purpose, to make you feel good after a good laugh. It's a gem!
