Plot: An angry cop literally kidnaps a court proceeding in a desperate bid for justice in this made-for-cable drama. Eddie Rios (John Seda) stands accused of the murder of two police officers, but he's found not guilty due to a lack of proper evidence. Steve Donohue (Bill Pullman), the detective who brought Rios in, is outraged by this decision, and in a burst of anger he pulls his gun and holds the defendant, the judge, and the jury hostage, demanding they immediately retry Rios, with Donohue presenting evidence he was forbidden to show the jury due to legal technicalities. Mistrial also stars Robert Loggia, Blair Underwood, and Roma Maffia. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

This is the timeless story of the difference between truth, justice and the law. There was a tad too much mugging and the whole story could have been done better. However, I would not dismiss this out of hand. It does raise significant points in the American system of jurisprudence. It is well worth the watch and perhaps will enlighten many as to what our law enforcement officers contend with on a daily basis.

Pullman perfect, HBO sells him short

HBO needs to stick to showing other people's movies and give up on making their own. Bill Pullman (While You Were Sleeping) gives it his best shot in this unrealistic movie of a cop holding prisoners at gun point in a courtroom and letting the whole world see it on television. It's a sad sign of the times. Another great actor that didn't get used well was Robert Loggia (Big). Great talent needs to work to become better. This movie justs makes you wish they didn't have to do movies like this to perfect their craft.

Bill Pullman plays a cop who angry at the acquittal of a cop killer takes over the courtroom and begins his own trial. Brilliant performances by Pullman and Robert Loggia as the captain.
