Plot: A blend of screwball farce and whodunit murder mystery, this madcap period piece was the brainchild of executive producer George Lucas. In 1939, Penny Henderson (Mary Stuart Masterson) is the harried general secretary and de facto manager of a new fourth radio network, WBN. On the night that the Chicago station goes live on the air, a mysterious voice interrupts, and a series of murders soon follows, each one described by the same sonorous phantom. While Penny and her staff desperately try to keep WBN's roster of shows afloat during the unfolding crisis, her estranged husband Roger (Brian Benben), a staff writer, becomes the chief suspect. Roger is forced to dodge a detective, Lieutenant Cross (Michael Lerner), find the real killer, win Penny back, and perform last-minute script rewrites for an unhappy sponsor. As the backstage hysteria reaches a fever pitch, the show goes on with real-life radio-era pros such as George Burns and Rosemary Clooney. Although never explicitly pointed out in the film, Radioland Murders (1994) was a pseudo-prequel to an earlier Lucas feature -- Roger and Penny are the future parents of Curt Henderson (Richard Dreyfuss) from American Graffiti (1973). ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

I have a weird sense of humor, so this movie cracked me up. I saw it in high school years ago and then HAD to buy it. Great product, really fast delivery.

Non-stop fun...and murder.

Once this movie starts, the pace keeps going until the end. There's no lulls in this one. It's a terrific comedy with well-timed dialogue, action and yes, a bit of slap-stick. And then of course, there's murder.
This movie takes place in 1939 when radio was on the top of the world and a new station is having it's grand opening night in hopes of competing with the top 3 major networks. So naturally things go awry. For one thing, the director isn't that competent, the writers must re-write every script moments before each is due on-air, and someone is killing off people one at a time. It's along the same vein as the movie Clue. This is a must see.

A great period who dunnit

A great star studded, who's who, murder mystery from before the era of the boob tube. Funny, fast moving, and just plain entertaining.

Be sure to keep an eye out as George Burns, Rosemary Clooney, and Billy Barty all make appearences.

Bob Goldthwait also tends to steal scenes as a goofball writer.

A look back at the golden days of radio with a slap stick quality. Star studded. Excellent flick.

Campy and Fun
Added 2/4/2009

Radioland Murders was George Lucas' pet project. It is filled with well known personalities. My whole family thinks it is great fun. It is campy but it also makes you laugh. Is it sometimes a little over the top? Yes, but that adds to the appeal. One brief shot of semi undress which I feel could have been eliminated with no ill effects. The same feeling could have been achieved with a little ingenuity. Overall, a fun time.
