Plot: Former video director Michael Bay had his first big hit with this action comedy, which also returned producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson to the big-budget, high-violence movies that they successfully churned out in the '80s. Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are two Miami cops who watch as 100 million dollars in heroin, from the biggest drug bust of their careers, is stolen out of the basement of police headquarters. This puts them hot on the trail of French drug lord Fouchet (Tchéky Karyo), who leaves a trail of bodies in his wake and only one witness, Julie Mott (Téa Leoni), who quickly teams up with our heroes. Comic hijinks ensue when plot complications force Mike to impersonate the married Marcus, to the point of moving in with his wife and children, while Marcus takes over Mike's bachelor pad and lifestyle. Car chases, snappy one-liners, and nonstop pacing fuel this umpteenth variation on the cop buddy formula. ~ Don Kaye, All Movie Guide

Fun movie, you have everything from shoot um up bang bang, to explosions. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are great together and play off of each other very well. I had ordered this movie from Abundatrade threw Amazon and never received it. Even tho Amazon refunded my money I have yet to hear anything from Abundatrade, Not even we're sorry from Abundatrade. And you would think that a company like Abundatrade would want to keep customers. Ohh well in any rate I got a copy from Block Buster here in town that is going out of buisness. I'm so glad that I found it here, I forgot that it really was a good movie.

OK but not Will Smith's Best...Which I think we have yet to see

The plot in this movie is absolutely nothing spectacular and is VERY basic. There are also plot holes all over the place. The constant arguing between Smith and Laurence also gets on the nerves and spoils the slight chemistry that they have. But Michael Bay's direction puts a glossy shine on an otherwise cruddy movie. But he made the movie in 1.85:1. Why?

The plot, for what it's worth, concerns a dealer (Tchecky Kayro in a virtually nameless role) who s an idiot member of his gang. Beautiful

Julie Mott (Tea Leoni) witnesses the slaying and is marked for . She calls the cops but for a dumb reason will only talk to Mike Lowrey (Will Smith). Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) is the only person there who can take the call and assumes the role of Mike in order to take Julie into 'in-home' protective custody. Why he doesn't just reveal to her right away that he told a little white lie only to get her out of harms way...I dunno. Perhaps it is because it's the only plot element that the legion of writers could abuse to inject the slightest amount of comedy and drag out an 85-minute to 2 hours. It irritates beyond comprehension and the film should really have been dumped in the direct to video bucket instead of having a cinema release. But as long as the film masquerades as a proper Hollywood movie everything will be okay.

A Hollywood movie it certainly is. It took 10 years for Bad Boys to be made and many changes to the script took place in that time. It was originally set in New York and was to star John Lovitz and Dana Carvey as the leads. It was shopped around Hollywood, chewed-up and spat out by many studios, until Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckhiemer picked it up and thought that turning it into a shiny and bright action adventure could redeem it. The budget wasn't too high and Bay did as much as he could considering the tiny amount of money he had (even spending part of his own salary) and did an impressive job too. The action scenes certainly make up for the lulls in the plot. Too bad there is not enough of them.

An impossible heist of millions of dollars of heroin, stored in the Miami Police Departments evidence room, has just become possible by a man named Fouchet and his group of thieves. After the heroin has been stolen, Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) are put on the case to get the stolen heroin back. The only lead they have though is a woman, Julie (Tea Leoni) that was shot at and who also watched her friend get gunned down by the same guys who stole the heroin. Thanks to Marcus and Mike's `shoot first and ask questions later' tactics, they are about to be yanked off the case and Fouchet will get away with the heroin and the murder of Julie's friend.

Back in 1995, I would've rated this movie at a 10 on a scale of 5. I was also 16. This movie is perfect for the way I used to be. Women, fast cars, money, and all the action a man could ask for. Yes...hormones were in charge of anything and everything I thought about. Now that I'm older (you do the math), I've calmed down a lot more. Yes I still love those same things I was talking about, but now instead of one lower brain thinking, I now have two. Usually the top one has more say-so in what I do now, depending on the amount of alcohol in me. So after seeing this movie for maybe my 10th or 20th time, I would have to say this... I still love it. Michael Bay knows action. Yes it can be extremely over the top, but I don't care. It's an action movie, and I'm here for some crazy stunts. And it delivers. Probably my favorite scene would be the bathroom scene where Marcus is getting a beat down, but delivering it back also. And oh the slow-mo that Bay is known for is littered in here. Sometimes it's great, like when the good guys are coming out of an elevator and they see the bad guys. That was nice. Then you got scenes where it's definitely not needed. For instance, during the heroine heist, they slow-mo a pad lock being cut. Yep. The movie has a lot of action, but it also has a lot of comedy in it as well. The comedic duo of Smith and Lawrence is perfect. Which is good, because I'm not a fan of Martine Lawrence. But in this movie (as well as the sequel), he actually cracks me up. Joe Pantoliano plays Captain Howard and I must say his character is a riot. But aren't they all usually in buddy cop movies? Always screaming and saying some wise crack. I will say though the funny starts to get a little repetitious towards the end and a little tiresome.

Bad Boys is probably one of my favorite Michael Bay films. If you hate the guy though, you'll probably dislike this also. It's full of action, guns, cars, adrenaline pumping music, and some hot women, and a story full of holes. What's not to like?

P.S. - I remember thinking Tea Leoni was the hottest chick in the world when this first came out... lol. Not so much anymore though.
