Plot: Mel Gibson, long-time heartthrob of the silver screen, came into his own as a director with Braveheart, an account of the life and times of medieval Scottish patriot William Wallace and, to a lesser degree, Robert the Bruce's struggle to unify his nation against its English oppressors. The story begins with young Wallace, whose father and brother have been killed fighting the English, being taken into the custody of his uncle, a nationalist and pre-Renaissance renaissance man. He returns twenty years later, a man educated both in the classics and in the art of war. There he finds his childhood sweetheart Murron (Catherine McCormack), and the two quickly fall in love. There are murmurs of revolt against the English throughout the village, but Wallace remains aloof, wishing simply to tend to his crops and live in peace. However, when his love is killed by English soldiers the day after their secret marriage (held secretly so as to prevent the local English lord from exercising the repulsive right of prima noctae, the privilege of sleeping with the bride on the first night of the marriage), he springs into action and single-handedly slays an entire platoon of foot soldiers. The other villagers join him in destroying the English garrison, and thus begins the revolt against the English in what will eventually become full-fledged war. Wallace eventually leads his fellow Scots in a series of bloody battles that prove a serious threat to English domination and, along the way, has a hushed affair with the Princess of Wales (the breathtaking Sophie Marceau) before his imminent demise. For his efforts, Gibson won the honor of Best Director from the Academy; the movie also took home statuettes for Best Picture, Cinematography, Makeup, and Sound Effects. ~ Jeremy Beday, All Movie Guide

This movie is still my favorite. I am so glad I purchased it in Blue Ray. I find this movie timeless. Worth every cent.

I haven't seen Braveheart until a couple of weeks ago when I had to watch it in Alternate Forms of Literature class and I was excited about seeing it because everyone was talking about how good of a movie it was. In my opinion they couldn't of been any more wrong about the movie. Sure, the movie had decent acting and cinematography but all of the facts and the storyline of the movie SUCKED!

I really did not like how he William Wallace got married and then just ends up doing the princess soon after his wife dies, in real events William and the Princess were not even anywhere near the same age. It really took out of the movie for me also because William has all of these epic battle scenes but then he just ends up getting tortured and dies and that made me think a lot less of William as a hero. Overall the movie had some okay fight scenes and the dialogue wasn't bad but this movie to me definately did not live up to the hype.

If you like Mel Gibson this movie is a must have. Great story line, great acting by everyone involved. May be the best directed movie ever, by Mel himself of course. I already had it on DVD but wanted it one Blu-ray. The picture and sound quality are much better than the DVD. Not the best quality picture I have seen on Blu-ray but noticeably better than the DVD. The extras are much better than whats on the DVD. Mel worked his ars off making this movie. He was lucky he did not end up in the hospital in the process. Now Amazon needs to put some of Mel's other Blu-ray titles on sale. We Were Soldiers, Patriot etc.

Mel Gibson delivers in every sense of the word...

William Wallace's story couldn't have been depicted more powerfully than it was in this film. Gibson is ahead of his time with his battle scenes and effects. Could have done without the breast scene. This movie sucks you in beginning to end. A must-own for any Blu-Ray collection.
