This is an excellent interpretation of an equally excellent book. It deserves the raves and awards it received when it first came out, for story line, as well as all aspects of the production.
The DVD was fairly priced, came in excellent condition, and promptly, so the transaction was very satisfying.

oh my god..this movie, i can't even begin to tell you.
let me start and end with francesca's decision to stay.
she was right to not leave with robert when the family was away at the state fair and have them come home to an empty house and a note.
she was also right not to jump out into the rain and into robert's truck with her husband sitting next to her at a red light.
however, in the end, she wrong to stay. her kids were not young, i believe they were 15 or 16. she should have told robert to come back to the farm in 2 or 3 years. the kids, i'm sure went off to college. what was the need to stay there alone with a husband, who she may have loved, but was not in love with. duty? loyalty? well, she did cheat on him, so i cannot buy those 2 reasons. once she crossed the line, i think she needed to own up to it sooner or later.
i felt for robert. it was her decision not to be together and there was nothing he could do.
and i understood Francesca and her fears of leaving a safe and secure life for a new, unknown one.
but had they taken those 2 or 3 years, corresponded my mail and then reunited, they would have had time to think and work things out.
but it's just a movie, right?
yes, but it's one that will stick with you and make you ask yourself, what would i have done.

It Just Left No Impression
Added 12/6/2009
Times like this I wish there were a way Amazon could allow us to specify when a product is a gift, which means the giver may not actually have viewed the product. In this case, although I did indeed purchase the DVD as a birthday present to my fraternal twin sister, I had watched the movie some years back and despite its two well-established stars, the movie itself made no impression on me, and I have no desire to see it again. I recall Eastwood was playing a photographer, and wanted to photograph a covered bridge, which was reflected in the title, but I cannot recall how Streep's character fit in with that, or the relationship that must have sprung up between the two. The relatiohship between H.G. Wells and Amy in Time After Time was much more intriguing and interesting to me.

Love love love this movie. So romantic

There's something nostalgic and simple about this film. I don't believe in adultery by any means but I wanted these characters to stay together.
