Plot: Billed as a prequel to the 1995 family film Casper, which in turn is based on an enduring Harvey cartoon character Casper the Friendly Ghost, this direct-to-video entry is aimed at younger kids (though some of the scenes may be inappropriate for really young children). The story begins as Casper, who is new to the ghostly plane, rides a death train towards Ghost Central Station where he is to attend a camp to train him to scare people. Instead, he irritates another passenger and is tossed off the train. The bewildered little spirit lands in Deedstown where he becomes friends with 10-year-old Chris Carson, a troubled boy whose mother is gone and whose work-obsessed father ignores him. Chris sees that Casper is troubled too and so decides to show him how to be a real ghost by taking him to Applegate Manor, the town's haunted house, and introducing him to the riotous Ghostly Trio. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

fun for the whole family
Added 3/18/2007

I use to have this movie on vhs and I recently purchased a copy on dvd. I totally forgotten how great and fun this movie is. I use to watch Casper cartoons and just loved this little character. The movie is just as wonderful as the cartoons. You will love the special effects and you will fall in love with Casper. The dvd special features includes a Casper cartoon. If you have children {or even if you don't} order this one and sit back and have some laughs.

Better Then The Theatrical Movie!
Added 12/21/2005

First off I want to say that before I watched the sequel Casper's Spirited Beginning I watched the original theatrical movie that starred Christina Ricchi and I thought it was boring but I liked this much better then the theatrical movie and didn't find it boring at all and I don't care that it's a made for television movie! This movie is funny and I like it!

I Liked It More Than I Liked The Bill Pullman, Christina Ricci movie!
Added 10/17/2005

I watched the original theatrical movie that starred Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman, I watched it on a video tape and while that was a good movie I also liked this prequel movie which I first saw on TV. I actually like this more than the Christina Ricci movie, It is a cute movie and stars two of my favorite actors Steve Guttenburg, and Lori Loughlin and I really didn't find this movie to be disappointing at all. It is totally cute and charming!

A bad prequal
Added 7/20/2003

The first Casper was a fun movie which I liked alot. After its success someone had the idea lets make a cheesy prequal with inferior effects that doesn't tie in with the first movie at all. In the first movie it says that ghosts scar because of emotion trama in this ghost scar because they are taken to some school to learn how to. Not a good vision of the afterlife is it. It also like I said before has terrible effects. They should have made a sequal with orginal cast and original effects quality. But this is awful.

A Stupid Begining
Added 1/15/2002

To start out with, this is another one of those typical, cheap, grownups-are-stupid; kids-are-smart movies. This is nothing like the first movie. If this is how it all began then it does not tie in with the feature film Casper the Friendly Ghost.

How can a ten-year-old boy, who is in the 4th grade, be smarter than his 40-year-old-dad, who is a successful architect? What happened to Casper's father, who lived in a completely other part of the country, and the big scary mansion? It doesn't make any sense. This is a disgrace to the friendly phantom.

The acting in this movie is at an all time low. They got low paid actors for a low paid movie. All of the horrible acting, sets, story, and CG make this movie the definition of a terrible movie. Should you watch this junk you will discover the dreadfulness of this piece of trash.
