Plot: Following the death of an American war correspondent (John Rice) in Nicaragua, his best friend, a New York stock broker (Louis Gossett, Jr.) is sent down by the State Department to claim the body. Upon his arrival to the nation's capitol, Managua, he discovers that the body has supposedly already been interred. His suspicions aroused, the stockbroker (who is really an undercover commando) surreptitiously investigates. He soon discovers that his friend (a fellow commando sent down to infiltrate a drug cartel) may be very much alive, but also may be a turncoat. Thus begins a quest that becomes as tangled as rainforest vines. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Just a Waste!

Hmmmm? What movie was it that had a Black man investigating the death of his white friend in a fish-out-of-water scenario? Aha! Replace Eddie Murphy with Louis Gossett, Jr. and replace Beverly Hills with Managua, Nicaragua. This film is just a serious version of "Beverly Hills Cop" and its comedy.

This movie had neither action nor suspense. The surprise events did nothing for me. This was more of a C-movie than a B-movie. This is the type of garbage that cable stations show outside of peak hours. Even seeing Gossett's buns did not improve this work.

Gossett is a veteran-turned-white collar worker sent on a mission that surely only a trained CIA staff member would be asked to do. Supposedly, Gossett's character and his best buddy fought in Vietnam together. However, his buddy looks 30 years younger than him. This film does try to hide Gossett's age, but the wrinkles don't lie. A twentysomething white man and a fiftysomething brotha could not have been in any war with each other side by side.

There's more crazy stuff too. Gossett's character compliments a woman's house. The house had exposed cement blocks and looked like a bomb hit it. This movie is a hot, funky, shameful, pee-yew mess!
