Plot: At Dartmoor Academy snooty principal Morgan Brinway (B.D. Wong) has second-graders studying opera appreciation, but five feisty kids, nicknamed the Stinkers by Brinway, skip class to create chaos on the school grounds. Although they get a warning from Brinway, they soon rebel with more misadventures. Discovering sea lion Slappy during an aquarium field trip, they smuggle him back on the school bus and install him in Brinway's hot tub. Groundskeeper Roy (Bronson Pinchot) mistakes the sea lion for a giant gopher and plans to kill him, but before that can happen, animal thief Boccoli (Sam McMurray) makes off with Slappy, planning to sell him to the circus -- prompting the Stinkers to set forth on a rescue mission. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

This movie is THE best ever! It's truly poetry in motion. When Roy throws that disgusting florescent beverage out the bus window and it drenched Mr. Brinway I knew I was watching one of the most brilliant motion pictures of our time. The comical delights of the evil doer in the film were a truly a breath of fresh air....and I quote "His nose exploded!"

Minus "Slappy and the"

Five supposedly stinky second-graders free a sea lion named Slappy from an aquarium and make it their mission to return him to the ocean. The usually sleek and commanding actor, B.D. Wong, is reduced to playing the kids' foil in the form of a school headmaster who is either falling down, getting hit in the groin, or being soaked with something wet and repulsive. Another foil is a malodorous animal dealer (Sam MacMurray) who wants to sell Slappy to a Bulgarian circus. Be sure and look for Bronson Pinchot as a dimwitted groundskeeper who mistakes Slappy for a gopher... Or, just splice Caddyshack and Free Willy together, and enjoy much better movies on the same themes.

modern day little Rascals

Just because the story line is predicable does not make this a bad movie. My kids love this movie and laugh their way through it. It has the "saved by the bell" mentality with some of the adult characters but if you liked the little rascals growing up you will enjoy this movie with the kids.

it's no Free Willy

We picked up this movie at a garage sale, and I am SO GLAD I only paid a dollar. I really feel I should get a refund though, and maybe some payment for time lost! The plot line is SO contrived (oh look at the poor sea lion, he looks so sad, we should save him and release him to the sea). Free Willy it ain't! The acting is abysmal, and don't get me started on the fake accents!! *shudder*

I gave it 2 stars instead of one because the kids had some laughs. However with the basic premise that kids should defy adults because they are all stupid, incompetent, and/or evil I think there are MUCH better family films out there to get your chuckles.

Slappy is a hit

My son requested this DVD. I had not heard of this title before and was unsure of what to expect. It looks to be a Little Rascals type of movie. But either way, my son loves it and watches it again and again.
