Above average crime thriller!
Added 10/17/2002
This formulaic, but occasionally diverting, thriller starring Rutger Hauer revolves around a serial killer who removes bones from his victims while they are still alive. He stops his killings and disappears. Years later Rutger Hauer's character, who headed the investigation against the killer, has since written a fictional novel in which the killer is actually caught. This sparks off more murders. Is it the killer returned or a copycat? That is what Rutger must find out. There is nothing really new but it is all professionally done for a B-Movie... These thrillers work best when you get a character which you get information about, who has some impact on the plot, so that you can draw up your own conclusions as to whether he or she did it or not. ...What this does do well though is lead you up blind alleys where you suspect different people but they are not the culprits. The filmmakers do this well rather than some thrillers that will have a character acting very shiftily indeed to really ham up the possibility they may have done it. Anyway, this is by no means very good but is certainly worth a rental. The acting is good and despite a rather lackadaisical ending it is never boring. 5.5/10

a nice dinner companion

I've always enjoyed Rutger Hauer's films...ever since The Hitcher. In this one, he plays the softened middle aged goodguy, retired and living off his prose. His nemesis is Bone Daddy, who comes out of retirement after Hauer writes the wrong book. The forensics are flawed, but the scenes in the disection room are appropriately tense and claustrophobic. I enjoyed this little gem over prime rib and cabernet. I recommend turning the thermostat down, as well as the lights. Enjoy.

A haunting portrait of pure evil.
Added 2/3/2000
This motion picture is a genuinely frightening movie that deals with the enormity of a vicious multi-murderer's reign of terror. It contains blood-curdling scenes of horror that include bones, blood-lust, and an autopsy performed on a living patient. Rutger Hauer performs very well as a former medical examiner turned best-selling novelist trying to capture the serial killer " Bone Daddy" after a book he's written about the killer awakens him from a seven-year slumber and strikes back with a vengeance. The best horror film of 1998.

A GREAT TRIP

THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING SERIAL KILLER HORROR MOVIE WITH MANY GREAT TWISTS TO IT. THE ACTING IS AMAZING AND THE PLOT IS KILLER. THE BLOOD AND GORE WHAT THERE IS OF IT WORKS IN MANY WAYS AND IS EYE CATCHING.
THE PLOT IS YOUR BASIC EX. PATHOLOGIST DOCTOR PALMER PLAYED BY THE UNDERRATED RUTGER HAUER WHO HAS WROTE A BOOK ON THE CASE HE COULD NOT SOLVE WHICH WAS TITLED BONE DADDY BECAUSE THE SERIAL KILLER TAKES THE BONES OUT OF PEOPLE. THIS IS A TWISTED TALE OF MAD CRAZY PERSON WITH A TASTE FOR DEATH. THE BOOK THAT IS WRITTEN MAKES THE KILLER GET CAUGHT AND THIS MAKES THE BADDIE ANGRY AND RESURFACE TO PLAY AROUND AGAIN.
INSERT SOME FAMILY DRAMA BETWEEN SON AND POP AND YOU HAVE A VERY WELL CRAFTED SCRIPT AND ACTED MOVIE. THE SUSPENSE AND MYSTERY MIX WELL TOGETHER TO BRING FORTH A KILLER SERIAL KILLER MOVIE. THE IMAGES DISPLAYED ALWAYS MAKES ME TWITCH WATCHING THE KILLER CUT THE BONES FROM PEOPLE AS THEY ARE STILL ALIVE, TALK ABOUT TRUE PAIN.
THIS IS A FILM THAT STANDS OUT AND IS WORTH A WATCH. IT'S BUILT AROUND STORY AND ACTING GIVING THE VIEWER TIME TO UNDERSTAND THE CHARACTERS AND THE OVER ALL LIFESTYLE OF THE MADMAN SERIAL KILLER AND ALSO DOCTOR PALMER AND HIS SON. THE MOVIE IS PLAYED OUT LIKE A SILENCE OF THE LAMBS TYPE OF REALITY. IT IS A FILM THAT IS OFTEN OVER LOOKED AND SHOULD BE GIVEN A CHANCE TO VIEW BY FANS OF SERIAL KILLER HORROR.
THIS TWIST NOT ONLY A SERIAL KILLER REALITY TO IT BUT ALSO IN A SENSE PLACES THE HORROR WORLD OF A SLASHER TYPE FLICK. IN THE END WITH THE EXPLOSIVE SHOW DOWN IT KEEPS THE VIEWER IN CHECK AND THE EYES GLUED TO THE FINALLY SHOT OF GOOD VS. EVIL. [...]

NOT SO DRY BONES
Added 7/4/2006
This 1998 made for Cable movie is suprisingly effective, comparable to films like SEVEN, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, THE BONE COLLECTOR...not quite as sharp but entertaining nonetheless.
Rutger Hauer plays William Palmer, a former medical examiner who has written a best selling novel about his involvement with the Bone Daddy, a despicable serial killer who was never caught. In his novel, however, Bone Daddy is captured, and this really ticks off the real criminal who goes on a rampage of vengeance. Barbara Williams as the troubled detective; R.H. Thomson as Hauer's associate and Joseph Kell as the son who is following in his father's footsteps lend capable support.
Intriguing and worth a view.
