Plot: Noted screenwriter Richard LaGravenese made his directorial debut with this dramatic comedy about two unlikely people who find each other while looking for love. Judith Nelson (Holly Hunter) is suddenly single after discovering her husband of fifteen years, a successful doctor (Martin Donovan), has been having an affair with a younger woman. Judith stews, plans, plots and fantasizes, but she can't decide what to do with her life until she goes out to a night club to see singer Liz Bailey (Queen Latifah), who is full of advice on life and love. While out on the town, Judith is suddenly kissed by a total stranger, which opens her eyes to new possibilities ... which is when she notices Pat (Danny De Vito), the elevator operator in her building. Pat's life is in even worse shape than Judith's; his wife has thrown him out for gambling, he's in debt to loan sharks, he's sleeping on the couch of his more successful brother, and his daughter is dying. At first Pat borrows money from Judith, but when the two start talking, they realize they have more in common than they imagined. LaGravenese based his screenplay on a pair of short stories by Anton Chekhov. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

If you want to know what this movie is about, check out the reviews below. If you want a good reason to see it, consider an incredible performance by Holly Hunter and an outstanding directorial debut by one of the best screenwriters in the business - Richard La Gravenese.

Holly Hunter has never been better. While many stars today seem comfortable giving us the same predictable character over and over again, film after film, she continues to deliver an outstanding and freshly original performance with each new offering. In this movie, Hunter plays her part so convincingly that many women who have played this role in real life will quickly identify with her character's plight and the journey it takes her on.

For La Gravenese, rare is the screenwriter who consistantly creates great stories supported by words with such meaning and truth - I found myself clinging to every line. In "Living Out Loud," he has filmed the must see movie for every woman who has ever been slighted by her man and yet, despite it all, managed to move on and survive just fine without him, thank you.

This film earns every star!

I was amazed at how quickly my purchase arrivedLiving Out Loud [Region 2]Living Out Loud. I live in Hawaii, and everything takes a week or usually longer to get here. Somehow I received it in about 3 days. In addition, the video I purchased was a very good price. Even more amazingly, I was charged a fair shipping price. What a pleasant surprise this purchase was! I highly recommend using this vendor.

Best regards,

I am not going to attempt to imitate a movie critic. Instead, I will just say that this film is incredibly good, and makes you genuinely care about the characters in it. This is also the movie that made me like Danny DeVito - after many years of considering him nothing but annoying comic relief, I finally got to see him in something that shows his true talent portraying a full spectrum of emotion. Funny how just watching one movie can completely change ones' opinion. This is a must-see movie. If you are in love, you will appreciate your relationship more. If you are alone, this will give you hope, and show that you are not alone at all.

this is a great movie-- nyc shines in it too and the acting is superb-- holly hunter is a revelation in this touching bright witty charming unpredictABLE love story---devito is at his best and queen latifah should only sing jazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz--her version of lush life is worth the price of admission alone-- but holly and devito take this wonderful material and go to town w it---- a most rewarding movie---if u havent seen it yer in for a surprise----this kind of quality is all too rare---highly recommended !!! truly not to be missed ! and the soundtrack is first class--dig queen latifah really singing !!!!!! too bad all the money is in the junk/nonsense she usually wastes her prodigious talent on-- this girl can sing !!!!!! its truly a sin that she doesnt sing the great american songboook--real songs that have heart and swing !!!! cmon queenie !! grow up already and sing what u were born to sing--drop in at smalls in nyc or uptown at one of the great spots up there in harlem-- --late night-- where the best of nyc's jazz heroes are waiting for u to jam w them !!! meanwhhile y'all- get this great dvd and the soundtrack--classy stuff indeed !!!!
