Plot: Director Sidney Lumet has remade the 1980 movie by his contemporary, John Cassavetes, casting Sharon Stone in the role of Gloria (portrayed in the original by Cassavetes' wife, Gena Rowlands), a street-toughened woman sliding into middle age. When the neighbors are murdered by a group of mobsters, one of which is a former boyfriend, Gloria takes the couple's seven-year-old son (Jean-Luke Figueroa) on the run. In time, she learns why the boy's parents were killed, and maybe just a little about herself. Sidney Lumet, director of '70s classics Network and Dog Day Afternoon, focuses more on the relationship between Gloria and the boy than did the original. Coincidentally, this would make the film very similar to the Brazilian Central Station, released at virtually the same time. ~ Ron Wells, All Movie Guide

Great Remake

It is what it is another Sharon Stone classic. I really like Gena Rowlands as an actress however, I think Sharon Stone did a better job at portraying Gloria. I really like the part when she comes home after being released from jail and the scene with her boyfriend & his goons in the Apartment. She acts & talks just like a tough moll gal from New York. I love this movie, that's why I bought it to add to my collections of DVD's so I can watch it over & over when ever I want. Sharon Stone is not given the credit she deserves for this movie. Sharon Stone is one classy woman.

Moving & outstanding movie

I thought everything about this was excellent. I found it to be extremely touching at a deep level. I'm not really sure what movie the people who reviewed this negatively watched. I thought that Sharon Stone's performance in this was outstanding. The screenplay & characters were written with extreme sensitivity & realness. By and large they weren't meant to be sympathetic. That's what makes this special. A beautiful film.

Sharon Stone is too good for this movie

One of the worst films ever. I don't know why such a movie must be made. May be studios don't know how to spend their money. Sharnon Stone's character as a mother is very, very riduclous. It isn't worth watching even one time.

Fantastic

Sharon Stone and Jeremy Northam are outstanding in this movie. Their performance is absolutely fantastic. Not only does Sharon take on Jeremy but also finds the courage within herself to rescue a little boy who finds out that both of his parents were killed.

Terrible Movie
Added 3/26/2004

While the original Gloria may not be one of my favorite movies, it was very good. Gena Rowlands was amazing in the role. Those are tough shoes to fill and Sharon Stone completely failed.

There is absolutley no chemistry between Sharon Stone and the kid. The acting was second rate and Sharon Stone's New York accent was unbearable.

The 1980 version is recommended.
