Fun for any age group

While in some ways, the Muppets franchise has gone downhill since the untimely passing of the great Jim Henson, Muppets From Space is a truly enjoyable film. I've always been of the opinion that a character as unique and entertaining as Gonzo should have more screen time. The film centers around Gonzo and his search for his identity. Along the way, Miss Piggy gets a job at a local television station (though her position isn't as glamorous as she might like), Rizzo does time as a lab rat, and we gain insight into the ongoing experiments of Muppet Labs (with hilarious results). Throw in a very funny cameo by a new character (Dr. Van Neuter) and a sublime performance by Jeffrey Tambor, and Muppets from Space is a movie that everyone is sure to enjoy, whether you are a fan of the Muppets from decades ago, or a child who has never seen the show or any of the classic movies.

The Muppet Gang Dose It Agian
Added 1/24/2009
One of The Best of The Muppets Scince Their Verson of The Christmas Carol.
The Story Focuses on Gonzo, Who's Tired of Being A One-of-A-Kind Thing. But, After His Alphabet Cereal Spells Out Something, Gonzo Belives He Might Be An Alien. After The Word Gets Out, A Secret Service Captures Gonzo and His Friend Rizo. Then The Muppets Go To Save Gonzo, So He Can Meet His Alien Family, Who Are Sceduled To Land That Night.
Muppets From Space is Another Great Muppet Movie. The Clever Little Moments in Film Are Very Inventive, Including Gonzo Having A Dream About Not Being Able To Get on Noah's Ark, The Muppets Getting Ready For The Day All Under One Roof, and A Cameo By Hulk Hogen (Who Also Made A Cameo in Gremlins 2).
Director Tim Hill (Who Later Directed Max Keeble's Big Move and Alvin and The Chipmunks) Didn't Capture The Great Muppet Magic That Was in The Eairlier Films, But Still Made A Great Film.
Overall Rating-5/5

An Excellent Return to the Muppets of My Youth
Added 1/13/2009
This movie has special significance for me due to it being part of a double feature I went to with my now husband on our first date. It wowed us then and we immediately had to deal with being trapped in a packed theater with no escape route on either side and a bad movie following the first exceptional one.
What makes it exceptional? The acting is superb, the plot devices are not weak, and it brings back the personae we know and love from over 25 years ago.
The story itself is uncomplicated. Gonzo the Great is tired of being a one-of-a-kind with no family other than his Muppet family. He gets kidnapped, the gang go rescue him, and the ending is out of this world. Literally.
The jokes work, the music is great with a fantastic morning opening to "Brick House." The commentary is done MST3K style and it works that way in a grand manner I wouldn't mind seeing other directors and/actors do more commentaries like that. It gives a feeling that you're there with them. False and untrue, but it still does feel a little like that.
So, I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite movies of all time and my second favorite Muppet Movie. The first is the original, the third is Muppet Christmas Carol. I own the 15 DVD set of the TV show as well as the new season box sets. Watching from the beginning and revisiting the origins, you can truly see how Muppets From Space is special and a return to the older, truly happy and free Muppets.

Muppets go Modern
Added 8/7/2008
Although not as good as the classic muppet movies, this movie still is enjoyable. Brain Henson has taken his father's muppets into the modern day-with space ships, roommates and popular music. In DVD the quality can't be beat! The story is fun and original and focuses on the ever allusive orgin of our favorite weird muppet, Gonzo. It's great for a family movie night and has laughs for everyone in the family!
