Plot: William Devane and Meredith Baxter star in this sentimental made-for-cable drama as John and Carol Boyajian, a couple facing a bleak Christmas due to a surfeit of personal tragedy. Having already lost their son in Operation Desert Storm, the Boyajians must now confront the possibility that their daughter has cancer. Rather than wallow in grief, John and Carol are doggedly determined to celebrate their first Christmas in 11 years; but as the holiday approaches, their hope and perseverance rapidly deteriorate. The couple's faith is ultimately restored by the arrival of a mysterious guest who may not be precisely what he claims to be. The Christmas Visitor debuted December 21, 2002, on the Hallmark Channel. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

An Inspirational Movie
Added 1/30/2010

This film which combines love of family, love of country, love of neighbor, and love of God is very comforting and inspirational. The stranger picked up at the side of the road lends an air of mystery and wonder to the film. Most enjoyable!

I first saw this movie on a cable channel, last year around the holidays, and just loved it. All the actors are great and the story is so very touching. be sure to have a box of kleenex, the tears of sadness and happiness will flow.

A Good Movie
Added 12/18/2009

A very good christmas movie that for some would help to heal the lose of a loved one. Being miliary I was very much impressed with the patriotism of the movie although I was somewhat embarrass by the appearance of the main characters son in a flashblack showing him leaving with his uniform on. I couldn't believe the way he was wearing his beret. My first thought was here's and staff sergeant and his beret looks like he just left the pizza house. Other than that the rest of the movie was very good and will be watch yearly with the rest of our christmas movies.

A Definate Classic !
Added 11/25/2009

I love this movie. I watch it every year. The quality of the blu-ray is excellent. It's widescreen, which I wasn't expecting, but I didn't notice any cropping from the 4:3 aspect of when the movie airs on tv. It's a great Christmas classic that everyone in the family can watch. Sure, the film can seem flat at times, but you don't really notice that all that much. The last half of the movie is the best part of it, when the family gets Christmas back in their lives after 12 years. I would definately recommend picking this up if you've seen it and love it as much as I do.

Cheesy, but its a Hallmark movie, what do you expect.

So you scrolled down to see the reviews on a Blu-Ray that is less than $10, right?

Well, this is a Hallmark movie, not a Hollywood blockbuster. So if you do not like those made-for TV type movies, then this is probably not a good choice, as it might be a little bit too cheesy for you, as the case with most Hallmark movies. However, if you do like those type of movies, then you will be a happy camper because this movie is equipped with William Devane and a music score as cheesy as a Wisconsin city.

Quite honestly, I am not into Hallmark movies. I bought this Blu-Ray because it was less than $10. However, I was able to sit through the whole movie, and even though I did not particularly think very much of the movie, there was nothing in it that made me want to gouge my eyes out. It was a decent story, acting was on par with the type of movie it is, so there really was no reason for me to give it a completely crappy review. Taking into consideration that there are people out there that are totally into Hallmark movies, it is probably right up your alley.
But this isnt one of those Hallmark movies that stands out, that gets mainstream attention. Storyline is decent, but not unique. If you like cheesey type of movies, then by all means, it is worth checking out.

ATTENTION DIGITAL SOUND ENTHUSIASTS: (this had no effect on rating I gave)

Unfortunately the movie is in STEREO, not 5.1 Surround Sound like most other Blu-Rays. This may or may not be a problem depending how far apart your left and right speakers are. Adjust accordingly.

This family is faced with yet another tragedy. This family lost their son at war. Now their daughter is faced with the possibilty of cancer. They have not celebrated Christmas in eight years. A stranger appears reminds them of the love for Christmas they used to enjoy. You will find yourself giving your own family a hug & kiss after this one.
