Plot: Not dissimilar to such earlier Hollywood features as Boys' Ranch and Johnny Holiday, this made-for-cable drama stars Bruce Boxleitner as ex-cop and former marine J.T. Hope. The owner of a 2,000-acre ranch in Utah, Hope makes it his mission in life to rehabilitate youngsters who, as a result of their criminal records, have been deemed incorrigible. In this instance, Hope focuses his attention on a trio of street punks, including incipient drug-dealer Keith Frazier (Brian Gross). With the help of his no-nonsense ranchhands Colt (Lorenzo Lamas) and Shorty (Barry Corbin), Hope works the boys hard and long (12 hours a day, in fact), tending the horses, cleaning out the barns, and tackling other such grueling chores -- all the while promising the kids that if after two weeks they have straightened themselves out, they will not have to return to the penal system. At first reacting in horror to the strict regimen of Hope's ranch (one of the teens declares, What is this? An episode of Survivor?), two of the boys begin showing signs of redemption, and even begin to enjoy their working vacation in the great outdoors. Alas, Keith proves to be a bigger challenge than Hope had anticipated, especially when the boy steals some horse tranquilizers and escapes into the mountains. One of the first films to be produced exclusively for the Animal Planet cable network, Hope Ranch debuted on September 2, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Drugs, Juvenile crime, corrupt judge, happy ending

I am truly sorry having to give TWO STARS to a "feel good" movie with bad guys loosing, highly bias Judge developing a heart, horses, motorcycles and one good cleavage shot. The story is so predictable that it telegraphs everything that is going to happen. The three bad kids are bad, but are easily controlled by an ex-con that now works at the ranch with the help of a former marine ex-cop and an old washed up cowboy. Good star lineup but even with some good acting the plot is a bit to weak.

YUP! DEFINITELY A CLEAN MOVIE

Sometimes teens are too smart-alecky [or arrogant] to appreciate a movie that teaches right from wrong.

J. T. Hope is an ex-cop and Marine who wants to make a difference in the lives of juvenile delinquents.

He is trying to get his ranch qualified for these juvys, so wouldn't you know, the red tape brass hands him what she considers 3 tough punks who will probably make him fail. She gives him only two weeks to show improvement in these 3 boys attitudes.

Needless to say the boys are out of their environment and have a rough time relating to horses and cattle. Boy, did they have a lot to learn.

Lorenzo Lamas - is a young man that Hope rehabilitated and he returned to the ranch to help. Neat tough guy!

Barry Corbin, as the old duffer used a bit of humor in teaching these tough guys the facts of life in getting along with each other.
And of couse, the one kid has a problem with his crack-head brother [whose only friends seems to be the snake].

Loved the way the boys learned to ride a horse and work the cattle.

Then we have the lady [Gail O'Grady] whose job it is to report any problems Hope has with the boys. Brass wants a failing report. Of course, they [her and her adopted daughter] gets tangled up with the druggies and we have a big rescue scene.

Altogether a great movie for the family to watch.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - great addition to the DVD shelf.

Cute, but trite.

As a sixteen year old girl, it can be difficult to find movies to watch with my parents. This one certainly qualified for that--it was moderately funny, had hardly any language, no "bedroom scenes" as my mother calls them, and ended happily. What violence there was revolved mostly around teenage boys acting tough. The basic premise--delinquent boys taken from civilization to learn how to shape up on a cattle ranch--was appealing enough. Practically everything that happened in the movie was a cliche, though. I knew how the movie would end before the opening credits were up. Still, it's something inoffensive to watch with the folks.

Movie you can watch with your family. Stresses the alternative when wrong choices are made. Great movie for pre-teens and teens alike.
