Plot: A very loose remake of the classic multi-star comedy It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963), this madcap comedy is directed by Jerry Zucker, one third of the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker comedy team and director of Ghost (1990). John Cleese stars as an eccentric casino owner who devises a contest pitting six teams against each other in a race to claim two million dollars from a locker in New Mexico. The competitors are Owen (Cuba Gooding Jr., who ends up driving a bus full of Lucille Ball imitators, a foreigner (Rowan Atkinson) who hitches a ride in an organ donor vehicle, and a recently reunited mother and daughter (Whoopi Goldberg and Lanei Chapman) who anger a squirrel lady (Kathy Bates) -- much to their regret. There are also two con artist brothers (Seth Green and Vince Vieluf), the upright Nick (Breckin Meyer), who gets a lift from cute but psychotic pilot Tracy (Amy Smart), and the eccentric Pear family, headed up by Jon Lovitz. Rat Race also stars Dave Thomas, Kathy Najimy, Wayne Knight, Dean Cain, and Paul Rodriguez. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

Pretty good remake of "It`s a Mad, Mad World"
Added 11/12/2009

This movie is a decent updated remake of "It`s a Mad, Mad World".
Not as good as the original, but then few remakes ever come close to matching the original. Given that, it`s still a pretty good
comedy. Even if it does lack the pure raw starpower of the original, most of the actors are in this one are pretty good and turn
in solid performances.

The plot of a good fast paced comedy is always fairly simple and this one is no exception. It`s a race. There is $2 million dollars
waiting to be claimed by the winner. The only rule is get there first any way you can.

Do it for the money, and you do it for the laughs

This is probably one of those comedies in which you never expect it to make you laugh. When watching it, you realize that it's done its job VERY well. Oh, yes! This one made me laugh as if I was breathing in laughing gas. The visual gags and verbal humor actually worked. The all-star cast (Cleese, Goldberg, Lovitz, Gooding Jr., Green, Atkinson, etc.) made it all the more enjoyable. The silly adventures (confronting a biker gang, riding on a bus full of Lucy Ricardo lookalikes, meeting a woman who sells squirrels, etc.) are so ridiculous and unbelievable that you can't help but have a good time while watching this film. The only problem I had with the film was when Smash Mouth played their hit single, "All-Star", at the end of the film. I have heard that song WAY too many times now, and I wish the crew used a song that hasn't been overplayed in TV commercials, films, and on the radio.

Otherwise, this is a great comedy. Grade: A-

THE most hilarious movie I have ever seen!
Added 4/4/2009

I love comedies, but this movie has me rolling on the floor every time I watch it. The creators and writers keep you laughing the whole way through this movie and it honestly has your stomach muscles aching from so much laughter in the end! (Maybe it should have been marketed as an exercise video! LOL). In any event, this is an awesomely funny movie. I think just about anyone would enjoy this star studded movie! I bought it because I just HAVE to loan it to anyone I know that hasn't seen it!

Perfect Comedy!!!

To me, Rat Race is like an awesome updated version of 'It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.' A gambling billionaire named Donald Sinclair picks 8 random people to race to Silver City, New Mexico at a Train Station to recieve $2 million. After they all agree to go after it, they travel by any means necessary to get there. It's hilarious how they all try to get there! Who gets it? You have to join the RAT RACE!!!

Great music and quick delivery.

The CD was everything I expected it to be. Thank you! My only suggestion is that CD's should be shipped in a well-padded envelope as the case was cracked when I received it. No big deal though; it's the music that counts! :)
