Plot: A shy musical comedy composer searches in vain for someplace to bed down with a sexy go-go dancer in this sweet-natured romantic comedy set in Manhattan. College student Gabriel (Christian Campbell) wants to compose musical comedies; Katherine (Tori Spelling), his muse and confidante, wants to star in his productions. In the meantime, she's rehearsing an all-female version of {+Salomé} set in a women's prison while he drowns his sorrows about a negative review at a tony strip club. On the way home from the bar, Gabriel notices Mark (Jean Paul Pitoc), one of the dancers from the club, catnapping in the subway. One mumble-mouthed come-on later, the men attempt to consummate their attraction to one another at Gabriel's tiny apartment, only to find themselves frustrated by pets, roommates, and a visit from Katherine. The couple's attempt to find a suitable boudoir leads them from one location to another; along the way, they discover that their attraction might extend beyond a single afternoon's ardor. Trick marked the feature debut of director Jim Fall, a New York University alumnus who had previously lensed such gay-themed shorts as Shanghai, He Touched Me, and Love Is Deaf, Dumb and Blind. Fall and first-time screenwriter Jason Schafer spent more than three years reworking his original script while raising half a million dollars to finance the film, which appeared at the {~Sundance} and {~Berlin} film festivals in 1999. Much of the publicity over the film centered on the heterosexuality of its two male romantic leads; despite such mild controversy, Trick became a modest art-house hit. ~ Brian J. Trick is a Genuine Gay Love story
Added 8/30/2009

This movie is amazing. I remember living in NYC, in the very same places where the lead character is living, and all of the things that happens to him were things I remember so well from being in the theater there.

Jim Fall has captured such a lovely, heart breaking, and hysterical story, and has put together a bunch of really lovely actors in all the roles.

Who can't fall in love with the lead hunk, Pitoc? Who doesn't love what Tori Spelling does in this role? And Campbell is so charming that you just want him to have a happy ending, in more ways than one!!!

This is a film that should be a part of everyone's DVD collection..period.

Great Gay Movie
Added 5/14/2009

Funny as hell, guys are sexy. They usually put characters that are not that attractive, but this one was great. It had some well known actors in it that you would never thought that would be gay instead of a bunch of actors that you don't know.

A great Gay Romantic Movie
Added 1/14/2009

I have watched this movie for about ten years now and every time I view it I feel it is as fresh as when I first saw it. Actually it has become somewhat of a timecapsule of how young gay people are. With all the recent non community that this gay world of ours are handling there lives it should be viewed by more to remind them of just how real and fun life can be. Yes it becomes sappy at times but thats the movies my dears. It is a wonderful viewing for anyone looking for top notch acting and editing of a film. The go go boy is perhaps the best looking gay character ever in a gay film in my opinion. Absolutely beautiful and at the same likable. This is how people really feel in the world about there relations at the beginning of the journey into love. Highly recommened. If your completely jaded by life you may not buy it but try.

Gays as ordinary people people

I bought this movie by accident, thinking it was "Tricks." I am not gay but I have written operas and a musical and I could sympathise with the hero. I have had a friend like the girl. The go-go dancer was beautifully played. I liked the song "Enter You." Non-gays should see this for a look into the gay life which is very much like straight life.

Charming, fast paced and romantic film
Added 8/7/2008

This is a romantic, funny and very sexy movie. My friends (straight and gay) always enjoy watching it at my place. The guys are really hot; the story is somewhat suspenseful and the music is great. Tori Spelling is hilarious; there is electricity between the male leads and the movie is quite fast paced.
