Plot: Director Danny Boyle revisits a theme from his Shallow Grave and Trainspotting days -- greed -- but focuses on a much younger protagonist with this comedy drama. Millions opens with recent widower Ronnie (James Nesbitt) moving his two precocious pre-pubescent sons to the suburbs. Missing his mother and the comforts of his old neighborhood, the young Damian (Alex Etel) builds a cardboard-box fort on the outskirts of the suburb, where one day his placid introvert existence is literally crushed by a giant gym bag full of thousands of pounds' worth of cash. Less concerned with the origin of the money than with how to spend it, Damian and his older brother, Anthony (Lewis McGibbon), decide to keep it a secret from their father, which becomes an increasingly tricky proposition as the days pass. His conscience getting in the way of his spending, Damian debates the ethics of his ill-gotten gains with a handful of imaginary saints, and begins to try to spend his cash a little more altruistically. But his charitable deeds inadvertently attract the attention of a mysterious, threatening man who's desperate to get his hands on the money. Marking a distinct change of pace for Boyle after the horror film 28 Days Later, Millions world-premiered at the {~2004 Toronto Film Festival}. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

This film is among the best i have ever seen. It's a kids film that adults can enjoy. The story is wonderful, the humor is witty, and those kids were just marvelous actors!!
I like this movie because they don't sugar coat everything unlike stupid American kids films these days.

This movie is truly fresh air. i absolutely love it and can't wait to watch it again and reccomend it to everyone!

A MUST SEE!!!!

Almost Good - Definitely Original

Delightful story of a boy who thinks a million pounds thrown from a train is a gift from God. All he wants to do is give the money away to the poor, but his financially astute older brother has other ideas. The boys periodic chats with long-dead saints adds a nice touch of history and fantasy. Two things spoil the movie, however. There is some embarrassingly obvious product-placement ads and there is a scene of a near-naked lingerie model that turns an otherwise family-friendly movie into something that can cause parents to blush.

Surpising !

Millions is a wonderful movie that presents a little boy's faith in God and how his faith affects others. I watched it first without the grandkids, and while it was sweet, I thought it might be a bit over their heads. The movie is set in Manchester England and the accents are very heavy. I was afraid the kids would have a hard time understanding, but they caught on faster than I did. The cinematography was unusual but seemed to contribute to the children's enjoyment. All watched the entire movie with rapt attention. (this a really saying something, because they normally don't sit still that long). At the end they where all sitting there with mouths open in astonishment.
They are 7, 10 and 12. All loved it and wanted to watch it two more times that weekend! The next week they wanted to watch it again. It is clean and full of valuable lessons. It made real how the saints help us. Recommended especially for Orthodox and Roman Catholic families.
Mom's should watch first because of the scary villain guy and to tiny parts that may cause concern.

Great for the Family

Millions is a great family film for people maybe 6 and up to watch, because some of the scenes are a bit scary. It starts with the family about to move to a new house that is packed with memories of their dead mother. It is a bit confusing in the beginning about whether the mom is dead or not because of the way the two boys use the fact on other people. One day as Damian (Alex Etel) is in his cardboard lookout a huge sports bag of money bounces in from the sky and onto his painstakingly made lookout. It's an overstuffed bag filled with money. Damian assumes it is a gift from God and is eager to start giving it out to poor people, as he is slightly obsessed with saints. He will not listen to his sensible yet slightly selfish brother Anthony (Lewis McGibbon) who wants to use it to invest it in real estate or chance it to Euros and accidently lets it slip to an intimidating-looking stranger that he has loads of money. It sends them twirling through a chase where the owner of the money demands the money back.

The actors are very good, and I love the saints that he regularly talks to that really seem to do miracles for him (saying his line in the nativity play when he runs away, rebuilding his cardboard lookout). Damian is very quiet and withdrawn, and Alex is amazing at giving people a look of the view of the children who withdraw into their own worlds. It is very funny at parts, especially to see people in the movie pasting money on the walls. The movie draws you in very quickly and almost everything is very easy to understand. It has a quite strange beginning though. All in all, I would recommend you see it.
