Plot: A woman who has never had much trouble choosing between love or money tries to teach a man the tricks of the trade in this sly romantic comedy. Irène (Audrey Tautou) is an attractive thirtysomething woman who lives a comfortable life by taking up with older and very wealthy men. Irène is serving as arm candy for Jacques (Vernon Dobtcheff), who is twice her age and quite rich; Jacques takes Irène on a vacation to a resort in the French Riviera for her birthday, where she meets Jean (Gad Elmaleh), a handsome bartender at the hotel who works a variety of odd jobs to keep himself afloat. While Jacques spends Irène's birthday sound asleep, she ends up enjoying a romantic evening with Jean, until she discovers he's broke. A year later, Jacques and Irène return to the resort, and Jean discovers he still carries a torch for her. Irène is not so interested until Jacques decides he's had enough of her and breaks off their relationship; suddenly forced to fend for herself, Irène turns to Jean for help. Jean, meanwhile, has learned that Madeleine (Marie-Christine Adam), a handsome and very well-to-do widow in her sixties, has her eye on him and wishes to make Jean her kept man. Jean asks Irène to give him a crash course in the fine art of being a gigolo, while Irène tries to get back in the game by taking up with Gilles (Jacques Spiesser). Slowly but surely, Irène and Jean realize how much they care for one another, but can they get learn to live the good life without money? ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Refreshingly fun romantic comedy
Added 10/25/2009

As an American who lived in France for two years (and dislikes a lot of french films), I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this movie. I'm not much of a romantic comedy kind of guy as I think most american films on the issue are cheesy, cliched and stale. Initially I wanted to see this film because I love Audrey Tatou (Amelie was a phenomenal film). I was pleasantly surprised that the plot to this film was nothing like the irritating romantic comedies of the US. A different kind of love story, and refreshingly funny too, this film will have you smiling from ear to ear from beginning to end! Highly recommend it!

An enjoyably vacuous Riveria romp...
Added 10/25/2009

"Priceless" won't tax your brain cells too much as it meanders through its story about two people bent on exploiting what's on offer from the French Rivieria's rich wanting readily available companionship & sex... a storyline that's been used before, most notably in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". Not a great deal happens, what does is fairly predictable and there's no attempt to explore the impacts of these strange relationships on those involved. Bad news then? Well, not really, because "Priceless" isn't and doesn't pretend to be anything more than (as a previous reviewer so aptly put it) an enjoyably sweet "soufflé" - a beguilingly attractive but in the end fairly vacuous romp through the Riviera's classiest and most beautiful locations. And, if you're prepared to take it for what it is, it's a perfectly enjoyable and entertaining way to spend an hour and a half or so of your time.

I adore this movie because of Gad Elmaleh

Audrey is absolutely gorgeous, but his subtle underplayed character stole the charm for me :) she is perfectly convincing as a puppy, but his eyes and sweetness. can we see more of him? somehow, despite implausability...its calm and regal, makes you feel like you're special ;) aha

Tautou

Again a French language film, so most folks have to read the subtitles, but it is very light and entertaining, so you can get away with ignoring most subtitles, too bad the French filmmakers make no effort to dub their movies in English
