Hard to follow
Added 4/18/2009
Although I enjoyed the movie it is definitely hard to follow the plot.
So if you are planning on a make out session this is not the movie.
I like it because it tries to merge other genre and it is not just "another gay movie"
there is suspense!
and it makes you think. what will the future hold?!

A clever thriller with complex storytelling
Added 4/12/2009
In response to another reviewer: The Making Of on the DVD makes it clear that the story took years to be developped, and so YouTube didn't exist at that time (it was created in 2005).
This is not a pop-corn movie, but an entertaining What If? story with a believable development, and a lot of twists and turns. I thought the storytelling was rather intelligent, I'll certainly watch this film again to catch what I missed the first time. The actors were all uniformely very good, with the gay aspect of the story mixed into the plot in what felt as a very natural way. We have few thrillers with gay characters as leads, and this one is definitely a keeper.

1 hour and 26 minutes of my life I can never get back.
Added 9/21/2008
This movie was one of the worst films I've seen this year. It made no sense. It had no objective or motive but to be completely and utterly stupid. I guess I am supposed to give a reason for the way I feel about this. Well, the reason is this:
YouTube.
Sure, I'm willing to give anything far-fetched and fictional flick a second look. After all, you can't find a better Blade Runner fan than me. But when it comes to a movie trying VERY HARD to take itself seriously and refuses to meet the audience halfway then I've had it.
Yes, this film was about a stupid movie made on an i-phone that for some reason the protagonist did not think to put on YouTube. Instead, he lets his friend die. He allows himself to lose his career in teaching. He does nothing when he's accused of being into child porn. He does everything he can to make his life and the lives of others around him COMPLETE and total garbage! WHY? Because he doesn't think.
If he had put the stupid movie on YouTube, it would have spread like wildfire and he wouldn't have had the problems he did. I'm furious that this movie was made. I'm furious that it was even funded by someone. (You wasted your money!) Finally, I'm mortified that I lost 1 hour and 26 minutes of my life watching it. Time I will never get back.
If I could rate this less than one star believe me I would.
This movie is a bomb. Don't watch it. I promise you'll be disappointed. Also, the tags suggest there is male full frontal nudity. PLEASE! There wasn't any! It's a joke.

Gay and Royal

"Surveillance 24/7"
Gay and Royal
Amos Lassen
One of the most interesting and controversial gay themed films making the festival circuit this year is a British independent film, "Surveillance". The plot line concerns Adam, the hero who is drawn into a web of intrigue as evidence is planted on him concerning a royal gay affair. The acting is good and the plot holds a great deal of suspense. There are always rumors about royalty and I just wonder if the rumors that have surrounded Prince Andrew in the past were the inspiration for this film. Because of the nature of the plot I cannot say too much about it without spoiling it for you.
"Surveillance" has great style and looks wonderful and because of that, the narrative plays second fiddle. There was a wonderful idea somewhere in this film but it somehow lost itself. Filmed with hand held cameras and including images that were obviously taken from surveillance cameras, the photography which could have presented in a whole new way, became distracting after a while. Sometimes the camera work was so distracting that the plot was lost. The conspiracy that was presented--if there indeed was one-made me feel like, "so?" "Surveillance" had a great idea with good acting that was lost for whatever reasons. From a great idea can a good movie be found--in this case, the follow trough of the idea was lost and it appears that the director had no idea of where he was going with this film.
