A good movie!

I really liked this movie! No, it's not as good as the first one, but I still liked it!

Was definitely on a budget

This franchise went the way of Planet of the Apes. First movie, huge budget...by the third, you wonder why they even bothered. Sad way to see Heinlein represented.

Hey, I actually liked it!

It is rather remarkable that they continue to make sequels to Starship Troopers (Special Edition) as it was such a silly movie. One thing that all 3 flicks have going for them are hot babes. The 1st one featured Denise Richards, #2 had Kelly Carlson & the present one stars Jolene Blalock of Star Trek: Enterprise: The Complete Series fame.
After seeing her as a stoic Vulcan on ENTERPRISE, it's almost surreal to see Blalock portray a character who has a vibrant personality. She gets to let her acting hair down (literally & figuratively!) in this role. She looks fabulous with long hair, and her tough-as-nails / ultra-independent persona actually reminded me of Angelina Jolie in the action flicks she's played in.
Of the three TROOPER movies, this one I found to be by far the most watchable.. Yes, it's still hokey & corny, but it's not as bizarre as the 1st two. It seems to have taken inspiration from either Voltron - Defender of the Universe - Collection One: Blue Lion or The Terminator in its new & improved method of fighting the bugs.
All in all, if you want an entertaining sci fi DVD then you can do a lot worse than this one. It's not great, but (unlike the 1st two) it's not awful, either. It is a good satire on war, has plenty of WWII imagery, pokes fun & religion & has a little gratuitous nudity thrown in for fun. In other words, for a STARSHIP TROOPERS movie it's pretty well-rounded!

A Wonderful Rainy Day Movie
Added 9/2/2009
I find this DVD thoroughly enjoyable. I use the present tense because when I first watched it I was impressed but missed SO much. By the 3rd or 4th time through it had me hooked almost like a cult sci fi thing with the memorable and unique lines and circumstances. It was filmed in S. Africa which allowed for more "bang for the buck" and some outstanding bit part actors, crew and extras.
Some things I particularly like are:
1. There is lots of action but it doesn't totally overwhelm the story.
2. There is a story but it doesn't overwhelm the action.
3. Of course Casper is great as Rico and I was enjoyed watching Jolene Blalock and Boris Kodjoe and all the others in the cast. I honestly cannot think of any bad or even disappointing performance. Can't say enough good about even the bit part performances.
4. It was satire at its best. I just love the absolute political incorrectness that is not quite offensive. It doesn't necessarily have a strong moral message (well, I could see some interesting possibilities but watch it more for fun than anything).
5. The gore was just enough that, again, it didn't offend or horrify me -- I am not a fan of unnecessary gore. It was just wild enough to be unbelievable and therefore so much more cathartic for me.
6. And last but not least, I LOVE the special features. Jolene and Casper were very entertaining and professional on the commentary and it was nicely balanced by Ed.
This is a great "rainy day" movie and now my most watched. I find it entertaining on so many levels no matter what my mood.
