I thought this game was official. The graphics are great, the game play is better. The controls are a bit difficult to get used to but they have the best free throw controls I've ever used on a game, and once you get the hang of the controls you'll be on the edge of your seat. A con is It is very difficult to make out the menus if you don't have a HDTV but believe me it's worth the purchase. I was pissed to find out that they are no longer making this series of games. I was an avid EA sports game player until I stumbled upon ESPN College Hoops 2K5 and I never looked back. This game will be a classic game to have, if you don't have it should be on your list of items to purchase. Get it before it's gone.

Graphics - Looks no better than a PS2 game
Arenas - Half Complete
MENUS - My God the menus on this game has to be the worst I had ever seen in my 20 years of playing video games
Controls - Crap
Gameplay - More Crap
Legacy Mode - Too much crap here people.
PROS : NONE
I think 2K must have gone lazy on me because I remember when they payed attention to detail in the game making department. Say what you want about EA Games, but at least they know how to craft a game to at least make it playable. Still the biggest thing that frustrates me with this game is the most horrific menu lay out i had ever seen.
If you want to play a sports game stick with EA.

New Controls Confusing but still fun

I've been a College Hoops fan since 2k6 and have been playing them ever since. It's been a great series of games that really haven't changed much over the years. That's why I was a little confused that the controls on 2k8 were so different. Some things are the same but there was just enough difference that it made it hard for me to just pick it up and start my career mode going. I also don't know why they don't make the view default to the 2k mode because that's what I prefer but that's just my preference. Still, it's a great game and I can't wait for the college basketball season to start. Go N.C. State!

SDTV Owners - please take note.

This is my first installment of this game on the PS3. I have a couple previous versions of it on the PS2. I mainly play the dynasty mode because I love the team management and recruiting aspects of the game. I have really enjoyed the previous installments, so I am disappointed to give a poor review to this version.
Unfortunately, I cannot play this version in dynasty mode because the fonts are completely unreadable on my SDTV. I can't comment on the other aspects of the game, as I played it just long enough to realize that I can't read the fonts and there is no way to adjust them. The situation sucks because I'm guessing I'd really like this game if I could play it.
Maybe next year the developers will remember the SDTV owners, or maybe I will have upgraded my TV by then. I definitely will not buy next year's version until one of those two things happens.

Update: I got an HDTV. The game looks great now. I don't see any way to change my star rating. If I could, I'd probably change to 4 stars because I think the game is a lot of fun, but SDTV situation is a major oversight.

FINALLY!!

Let the madness begin! I had the game since June, but because I am an assistant coach with an AAU team, I am just now getting around to rating this game. It is, hands down, the most perfect basketball sim ever created. The only thing more they could have done was make the graphics crisper, and added more HS tourneys. Everything else is here.
On the recruiting trail, everything is intact. The AAU season, JC/HS players (all the way down to the Frosh), even the REAL recruiting early and late signing periods. You can play AAU games, and the more you play the more you learn about a player. It's broken by region, and teams have names that resemble AAU (Triple Threat, Air Down There, etc). It even shows you the kids college choices and your chances of landing them. The only thing, and i'm being VERY nitpicky, is I would love to have more "real" camps that were avail at this time- like the Adidas Big Time, Nike Camp, King City Classic (then called King James), and Nike All-American. I also would have loved to see a "different" crowd at those games (coaches, agents, scouts)
In season is perfect. All the teams. All the tourneys. And even all the AUTHENTIC stadiums (yes, Scottrade Center, the amazingly large KU logo, and A. Rupp Arena are all on the court). There's the weekly post game show, and a good 10 min selection sunday showing. There's also early and late signing period, and the McD game. Again, being VERY nitpicky, I would have loved to see an inclusion of the top 50 hs programs, and a selection of D2 and Juco teams for transfers. The HS teams could have weekly showcases that you could play and evaluate talent. Also, I would have loved to seen either Magic's Roundball and/or Capital Classic/Jordan Game also.
All in all, perfect game. I don't even see a need to buy another college game, unless it's an updated mode of this one. Hard to even look at the NCAA basketball, after owning this one. Finally, the madness can end :-)

My Favorite Game

I've never played the EA Sports basketball games, only 2k Sports. But from what I know, this is the best college basketball game. No question about it. If you like college basketball video games I can't imagine you being disappointed with this one. I mean it's not perfect, I'll admit, nothing ever is, but it's still good enough to be really amazing. Remember, this is just my opinion and I happen to enjoy it. I don't want to give away too much.
