Plot: The true story of the woman who created some of the most beloved characters in children's literature comes to the screen in this drama leavened with elements of comedy and romance. Beatrix Potter (Renée Zellweger) is a imaginative but gently eccentric woman living in the socially and intellectually confining circumstances of Victorian England. Potter's wealthy parents are eager for her to marry a successful man and settle down, but she has ideas of her own, and has been writing and illustrating a series of stories for children centered around a character she calls Peter Rabbit. Potter's efforts to find a publisher for her stories prove difficult, but in time she finds a firm who agrees to give her book a chance, and Norman Warne (Ewan McGregor) is put in charge of the project. While Warne is new to the publishing game, he believes Potter has great talent and potential, and throws himself into the work with enthusiasm. A strong personal bond grows between Potter and Warne, and in time he asks her to marry him; however, Beatrix's parents do not approve of Norman, and she is forced to choose between her mother and father and the man she loves. Norman's sister Mille (Emily Watson) urges Beatrix to follow her heart, and she accepts Norman's proposal, but fate has other plans. Miss Potter was directed by Chris Noonan, who created an international sensation with his first feature film, Babe. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Efficient website

I ordered Mrs. Potter for my daughter. It was easy to order on the website. The shipping took a few days longer than expected but when we saw the originating address of Canada, we were fine with it. The item was new and excellent condition. I was really pleased with my first time experience using Amazon!

We rented this first from Netflix and knew i had to own a copy - got a good price on Amazon, and have shared it with many.....given it to them to watch, not copied it!
Great story about a woman who knew what she wanted and worked to make it happen, and found love on the way.

A very sweet film

I caught this on TV last night and just loved it. I missed a little of the beginning, so I can't wait to watch the whole movie now that I've ordered the DVD.
Simply put, this film is just ... sweet. I love nothing better than seeing innocent love well depicted. Of course, it does compress some episodes of Beatrix Potter's life, but it does so brilliantly -- and anyway, who cares? This film will not disappoint anyone who appreciates the beauty of true love.

Although we're on Netflix there's some movies that you just have to "own". This is one of those films

A woman ahead of her time!
Added 9/2/2009

It was so interesting to learn of the woman behind the children's books. She was truely ahead of her time, strong and a wonderful conservationist. Her personal story was very moving and I will enjoy watching this again and again.
