too much of the "F" word
Added 6/22/2009
I consider myself a good democrat and was not aware of this video until I had the opportunity to see Mr Maher's video about religion. I ordered it and had difficulty watching it mainly because of the "f" word being inserted too often .

Get Ready for Maher Mayhem
Added 3/10/2009
In "The Decider" Bill Maher is very funny and biting in this stand-up assault and skewering of then-President Bush. He knows his facts and marshals them against Republicans, organized religions, drug companies, and Bush 43. (It anticipates his recent movie release "Religulous.") It's a series of hard-hitting, obscene, and rapid fire jokes.
President Clinton comes off fairly well, although I've always thought he would make a perfect target for an all-out assault. If you're a right wing zealot, you'd better avoid this full frontal attack. Maher extols the virtues of condoms. If you're going to attack the right wingers, you might as well hit all the bases.
Surprisingly there is not too much about Vice-president Cheney except his poor aim when hunting. If you're a Bush-basher, a true Democrat, a libertarian, or an agnostic, you'll probably love this. I found it profanely and profoundly hilarious. Political satire has been a rare breed in recent years, and we need more of it to keep us honest and alert.

Maher Falls Short

Disappointment for sure. He can do so much better. Look for other titles and you will be far more entertained.

Out with space gods, and down with reasoning.

Finally somebody dares to speak-up, in a constructive, cognizant manner, and criticize this money laundering establishment that we call organized religion. Packed with criminals, preaching morals - how do people rationalize this I'll never know - thankfully.

High Definition not yet but the regular DVD upconverts NICELY
Added 2/26/2009
As far as comedic timing and editing go Maher's Religulous delivers in such full force that it should have been nominated for something. Like biggest b$#%*. The clips used to further his arguments along the way are hilarious and add ALOT to the overall watchability. We are subjected to Bill's faithless bootheel logi/humor as it is applied to unsuspecting victims and their chosen faith. It is too bad that this movie will enrage so many people as it feels designed to ultimately compell the viewer to dispell all the myths they have accumulated and truly take stock of their beliefs and place in the universe. He just does it in such a ruthless fashion, still the role of overzealous nearly evangelical agnostic fits him well, and is an appropriate counterpoint to the tactics of the organizations and individuals he is skewering. The deleted scenes with D. Icke and more are a treat as are the extra monologues. Don't watch this if you have stopped evolving or learning or lack the ability to laugh at yourself and your beliefs. LIONSGATE if you BLURAY this add more EXTRAS the transfer on the DVD is already terrific.

Religulous/Hilarious
Added 10/22/2008
You don't have to pass an IQ test to be in the Senate.
If you build a diorama with animatronic dinosaurs and children coexisting, it must be true.
Dialing a phone on Sabbath is forbidden, dialing a phone with a stylus on Sabbath is allowed.
You will learn all this and more from Bill Maher's hilarious mockumentary, Religulous.
It is not often that a movie is so subversive, funny and educational all at once. Bill Maher certainly has his fair share of ego, but he has the comic chops to support it. In some of his interviews I wish he had gone further, but to do that he would have to have been more serious, less funny and ultimately have made a different movie.
But the movie he makes is brilliant, it shines a spotlight on some of the serious questions and inconsitencies in religion that people allow themselves to ignore. And his ultimate message is one that everyone needs to hear; there are things in this world that are not explained, and that's OK! Not every gap in human knowledge is God-shaped. Doubt is good, doubt makes us ambitious and inquisitive and humble. And that's not a bad way to be.
