Plot: Is Ruby Weaver's Mr. Right really an emissary from the year 2,470, or is he just a complete loon ball? This question is at the heart of Brad Anderson's whimsical romantic comedy. The story opens with Ruby (Marisa Tomei) lamenting over her boyfriend Sam (Vincent D'Onofrio) to her shrink (Holland Taylor). In a series of flashbacks, the film quickly sketches Ruby as a neurotic with an unhappy track record concerning men and Sam as an oddball who is afraid of small dogs and has a barcode tattooed to his arm. But he's nuts over Ruby, and at least initially, that is enough for her. Slowly, Sam begins to reveal his past. He tells her that he is from the Dubuque of the future and that he hails from a rare anachronistic family who believe that reproduction should occur the old-fashioned, fun way as opposed to the more popular cloning method. At first, Ruby is amused, until she realizes that he's not kidding. After a series of arguments, he agrees to visit Ruby's analyst, which yields unexpected results. This film premiered at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Jonathan Crow, All Movie Guide

One god-awful movie...a waste of time
Added 8/30/2009

We had never heard of this movie before, and we thought, 'Marisa Tomei, Vincent D'Onofrio, in what appears to be a romance story....might be pretty good.'

Nothing could be further from the truth. This is without a doubt one of the worst movies we have *ever* seen. Incoherent story line, nothing in it to hook your interest, *bad* acting (especially from these two usually great actors -- what were they thinking when they agreed to make this pile of *&%$#@%?).

Our only conclusion was that (1) they did it just for the money, or (2) whoever edited the thing left the coherent, good acting/scenes on the cutting room floor, and spliced together this mess with the leftovers.

DON'T waste your time on this --- you've been warned!! :-)

Good actors---weak story line
Added 12/24/2008

The acting was superb but the story line was pretty weak. The movie would have been a lot better if it were a lot shorter. It seemed to go on and on and I guessed some of the surprises before they happened. Watch it if you're curious. I don't think it deserves all the rave reviews.

Very romantic, sweet time-travel love story
Added 10/31/2008

Wow! I loved this movie! I never would have guessed that a romantic-comedy could double as a sci-fi flick, but Happy Accidents does just that beautifully. I've always been a fan of Marisa Tomei's so it's no surprise that I thought she was great in this -- all of the actors were terrific.

The story is romantic and sweet, but with substance. It's a thinking girl's (or guy's) romantic-comedy. I found myself rooting for the main characters, no matter how implausible their plight because that's what good movies are supposed to be able to do: move the audience into suspended belief.

If you want a romantic, feel-good movie about the power of love, you can't do better than this.

If You See Even One Bad Rating- IGNORE IT!

This is a beautiful story and completly unexpected. I had no idea from the opening couple of minutes that this movie would turn out to be so wonderful. It left a real impact on me, one of those movies that makes you think about life and feel good about everything. Do not miss this movie. The acting was great, the story was fantastic, lots of familiar faces to add a real legitimacy to it. Unbelievable in every way. I can say without hesitation this is THE best movie I have seen in years.
