Mariah Carey + Acting = Failure of the Century
Added 11/2/2009

OMG, I don't even know were to begin. This movie was just garbage. Seriously, I thought you have to act to be considered an actor. Mariah Carey was an horrible actor. Don't get me wrong, I love her music, but her acting is poor.....very poor. This is not a movie, more like torture!

Honestly I didn't see where this movie was that bad. My favorite parts are the beginning, when the mother and daughter duet. I'm still waiting for that little girl to make a album. Was that her actually singing? And the club scene where Billie/Mariah funks up "Funkin' For Jamaica" was totally flawless. Truth be told I bought the movie for those two scenes alone. It was worth the 10 bucks I paid for it, on VHS. Watch it for yourself, you be the judge.

"All that glitters is not gold"
Added 12/9/2008

"Glitter" is pop diva Mariah Carey's infamous 2001 cinematic debut. It's gloriously bad. It's not as over-the-top as the Olivia Newton-John extravaganza "Xanadu",but it comes pretty close. There's a song every ten minutes, making the movie a music video with a threadbare plot. Stars like Terrence Howard,Padma Lakshmi (host of Top Chef),and R&B singer Eric Benet (Halle Berry's ex) give the film more glitter than it would otherwise have.

Mariah Carey stars as the androgynously named Billie Frank, whose black mother and white father are at odds, and whose mother has drug issues. Billie is dropped off at an orphanage(?) where she meets Tia Texada and Da Brat. In the meantime, there are some painful blinding white flashbacks and dizzying camera work that seems to have been inspiration for "Cloverfield." Billie does some backup singing for the conceited diva Silk (Lakshmi) Soon, she catches the ear of DJ Dice (Max Beesley) She gets catapulted into instant fame without much effort on her part. She sings, and audiences are smitten. Terrence Howard does a great job as a sleazy producer--he hustles&flows his way through the movie. Billie and Dice go on an odd date accompanied by a song that's a smooth jazz radio station sample, one in which Billie spends most of the time sniffing a rose at the restaurant. As is expected, the instant love affair culminates in instant sex thereafter. As Billie's success grows, Dice becomes jealous and controlling. She leaves him, has a successful dance duet with Eric Benet, then has a sold-out one-song concert at Madison Square Garden (where she's learned that Dice has been killed) It ends, amazingly, with the limo driver taking Billie all the way from New York City to her mother's place in the Maryland wilderness.

"Glitter" is the R&B/pop version of "A Star is Born." There's a pervasive,heavy-handed "no smoking" message, from Billie's mother accidentally burning down the house to Dice's hinted-at lung cancer. The frosting on the cake is Billie's mother issues.

"Glitter" shines as a cubic zirconium of bad movies!

Pretty good, even though most people are bashing about it.

All critics called it really bad but in my opinion, I think this is a pretty good movie. Why didn't they criticized Britney as much? I think her movie was far worst than Mariah's. Of course, if you're a Mariah fan, you'll probably enjoy it like I did. She started acting in this movie so, nobody could expect much but I think she did a pretty good job for a first-timer. Anyway, 9/11 didn't help her either so that wasn't her year. I give it 5 stars despite all the critics out there. MARIAH FOREVER!!!

I LOVE GLITTER!!!
Added 9/10/2008

Even my 12 yr old loved Glitter and cried. It was a good movie that came out during the wrong time...9/11. So that sunk the movie and cd because people weren't in the mood for it. I really enjoyed it and I own it.

Drama
Added 4/4/2008

I bought the DVD since I love Mariah Carey. The movie had a lot of language in it, violence and drama. The movie must have been made just before the Terrorist attacks on 9/11 because there was a brife scene of the twin towers in NYC.
