Plot: Two brothers are victimized by a weak and jealous man in this drama shot on location in Louisiana. Beaux Dupuis (Jonathan Schaech) lives on a houseboat with his brother Pemon (Fred Koehler) in the swamps of Cajun country. Beaux is a handsome and responsible man who supports his family by running a bait shop and looks after Pemon, who is mentally handicapped. Beaux used to love Mary-Louise (Tamara Braun), a dark-eyed beauty, but she's recently married local ne'er do well Carl Lebauve (Jeremy Davidson), who has a mean streak and a jealous nature. As it happens, Carl has reason to suspect Mary-Louise -- she still stops by the Dupuis home occasionally to bring snacks for Pemon, and is sometimes tempted into infidelity by Beaux. Carl's father is the local sheriff, and when he's killed in the line of duty, his son takes his place; it isn't long before Carl learns Mary-Louise has been having an affair with Beaux, and he uses his new authority to put Pemon behind bars on false change as a way of punishing his big brother. Little Chenier was directed by actress and filmmaker Bethany Ashton Wolf, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jace Johnson, whose short story provided the basis for the story. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

This is a great movie! Saw it once and had to have it for my collection. Great performances by all actors. The end may leave you a little"what happened to" feeling, but still a cut above.

At Least Tamara Braun Was In It

I have to say that after watching the trailer for this movie I had pretty high hopes that it was going to be a really good movie. I have to say I was quite wrong. Other then a couple strong performances, the acting felt very loose and the story was a bit all over the place. I have to say if it wasn't for Tamara Braun, it would have gotten 1 star for a review.

I've seen worse.

Not many mind you, this movie is in exclusive company. I'm only giving it 2** out of respect for all the doofuses giving it 4 and 5 star ratings.

Johnathon Schaech, he's one of my favorites, but I'm guessing he hates this movie as evidenced by his lack of a cajun accent since he's running a dockside Bait Shop down on the bayou along with his brother, who has the IQ of a crawfish on life support.

For all you fans of cajun movies (all 3 of you) there is plenty of fishin, shootin, bad sheriffs, hot women, calf killin, store robbin, crawfish eatin, and drunken daddies to make things semi-interesting except for the ridiculous script and the fact that this movie is directed by a WOMAN who in cajun society comes in a distant 5th to crawfish, shrimp, beer and red beans. Basically women are DQ'd from making an attempt to translate what this movie is trying to convey, that's why is DOESN'T!

And the people talking about "how beautiful" this thing is.....hello people, it was entirely filmed in a SWAMP! Yeah, it dont get any better than that.

Its a stupid movie, I fell for the reviews here and thank god I only suffered a rental. 2 Crawdads and I'm being kind.

Fantastic movie - a must.

Finally a wonderful movie filmed in the great southwest Louisiana instead of New Orleans. Bethany Ashton Wolf definitely pour her heart into the movie. I congratulate her on showing what a beautiful and serene life we had in SW Louisiana and that more than just New Orleans was devastated by hurricanes that fateful year. But most importantly it shows how important family and friends are to us in our "Cajun world" and they we're not just Mardi Gras and hot sauce.

Good movie!

The story line is good and the acting is very well done. Filmed mostly in Louisiana, it depicts some of the people around here. Not all! I am from south Louisiana and found the movie enjoyable just as long as non-Louisiana people don't really believe that we all talk like this. But a good movie nonetheless. My husband even worked security on the film locations when they were down here!
