Plot: Adapted by Merle Miller from the novel by Joe David Brown, Kings Go Forth stars Frank Sinatra and Tony Curtis as, respectively, a tough army lieutenant and a cocky radio operator. Serving in Southern France during World War II, Sinatra and Curtis vie for the affections of mademoiselle Natalie Wood. Upon learning that Wood's father was black, both men succumb to their inbred prejudices. Sinatra manages to overcome his latent bigotry, but Curtis does not. In fact, he's so vocal in his race hatred that audiences are virtually cheering for his inevitable demise. After the war, Sinatra, who has lost an arm in combat, relocates Wood. The film ends ambiguously, possibly because miscegenation was still a touchy topic amongst Hollywood censors. Kings Go Forth was universally popular - except, perhaps, with those ex-GIs who were still resentful that Frank Sinatra had in real life been spared wartime service due to a questionable physical ailment. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

I really enjoyed this movie. It is sad in some parts, but you really get into the characters.

It may seem a little strange of me to watch an older film like this and review. But I like the old films with actors like Sinatra in it. This film says alot about Sinatra and his quiet battle against racism in America. That's right! Sinatra was one of the big name Hollywood types to take a stand against racism. He did it in his own way by doing films like this and having high profile Black friends like Sammy Davis. When HDTV came out I envisioned that we would only benefit from newer high def films. However I am finding that older films like this one restored to it's glory and viewed on a modern big screen is very ideal. In many ways watching it that way took me back to 1958 where I imagined myself at a quality theater. I also put my mind in a 1958 mode. This movie certainly did break ground due to the big name actors as well as the topic of racial prejudice. In the end Curtis character is dispicable even by standards of the day. Sinatra's character comes across as the good guy that Natalie Wood should have hooked up with. Wood comes across as very cute and somewhat naive about the Americans and American society. The music and cinematography are great. France looks great. The ending was a little strange but stunning nevertheless...

Forgetable War Drama with a Great Cast
Added 4/29/2007

Frank Sinatra nad Tony Curtis star as two GI friends who both love a young french girl played by Natalie Wood (who keeps loosing her accent during different scenes). The the three of them cast in this forgetable film is worth three stars by itself

Sinatra seem too old to play Wood's love interest. Curis seem too perfect in this role as the blues playing GI in the thick of war.... and Wood-see last paragraph

The world war two melodrama is soapy at best. AS I said before, there are very few suprises in this film, except for the acting of Sinatra and Curtis who outshine the script

Foe Sinatra and Curtis fans only!

No kings and so forth.

This is one of the lesser known Natalie Wood films but she is always a pleasure to watch. The story line attempts to handle one of the major prejudices of the time against a WWII background but stumbles a little. If you want to see a good war movie this is not it. Frank Sinatra and Tony Curtis carried their roles very well except they were not very kingly. The picture quality of the film is very good. All in all this is a good film if your looking for a little drama rather than an action movie.
