Plot: In this sports melodrama that boldly illustrates the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, Lynn-Holly Johnson plays Iowa farm girl Alexis Winston, who has a God-given talent for ice skating. With the encouragement and training of the local ice-skating rink operator Beulah Smith (Colleen Dewhurst), she manages to win the first prize trophy at a regional ice-skating competition. At the competition, she is spotted by Olympic coach Deborah Machland (Jennifer Warren), who promotes her as an underdog competitor, and she skyrockets to fame. Her career is going like gangbusters, until she is blinded in a freak accident. But with the help of her caring boyfriend Nick (Robby Benson) and her encouraging father Marcus (Tom Skerritt), she overcomes her depression just in time to prove herself at a major competition. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

I am a sucker for love stories...and ice skating - so I loved this movie. I remember seeing it when I was a teen - and I still enjoyed it now that I am "over 40".
It sends a good message also - you can do anything when you set your mind to it & work hard. The love of family & friends goes a long way!

Lynn-Holly Johnson Worth Seeing

This is far from a believable story: a top ice skater losing her sight and then becoming even a better skater after becoming blind! Hmmm......I don't think so.

However, the girl - "Alexis Winston," played by Lynn-Holly Johnson - is such a beautiful and sweet person that she alone makes the movie worth watching. Johnson was an accomplished skater in her own right, so she makes the skating scenes look realistic.

The bad news was the character, "Beulah Smith," portrayed by Colleen Dewhurst, an annoying butch-like foul-mouthed woman, the opposite of Johnson. Her bad mouth prevents this from being a good family film, which it could have been.Familiar '70s actor Robby Benson plays Johnson's boyfriend, but he's not all that likable, either.

This is mainly Johnson's film......and who's complaining?

I remembered watching Ice Castles when I was younger and having a crush on Lyn Holly Johnson :). I still find the movie a great watch and good to show kids. It has some themes through-out the movie that are inspirational. Thanks to the intiators, cast, crew and Amazon.
