Plot: Saturday Night Live star Dana Carvey had his first leading role on the big screen in this comedy. Eddie (Carvey) and Lou (Todd Graff) are a pair of small-time con artists deep in debt to Pinkie (Mike Bacarella), a loan shark. During a lean period, Eddie and Lou resort to breaking and entering to make some money, but as they're clearing out a house, they overhear the answering machine announce that the owner is away on business for a few weeks -- and the housesitter won't be able to stop by. Eddie and Lou settle in and enjoy their good fortune, which just gets better when Milt (Robert Loggia) pays a visit. Milt assumes that Eddie is the housesitter, who is a close friend of his son. Eddie is soon introduced to Milt's beautiful daughter, Annie (Julia Campbell), and Milt decides that Eddie is executive material at his successful manufacturing firm. Soon Eddie starts to wonder if he should go on lying to the people he's come to like -- and there's the little matter of the 60,000 dollars that Eddie and Lou swiped from Pinkie's car. Opportunity Knocks also features Milo O'Shea and James Tolkan. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

I remember this movie from T.V. and a trully enjoy it a lot. It is perhaps the only Dana Carvey movie really worth watching. For those who like silly 80's romantic comedies this one is for you.

If you can overlook the lack of quality acting, this movie is pretty good! Dana Carvey is classic in this, playing quite a different role than most of his Saturday Night Live personae. The movie is probably not suitable for small children because of some adult themes and language, but with appropriate supervision should be fine for most of the family. For less than $10, it is a great choice if you need to get to $25 for that free shipping!

Dana Carvey's Best Movie

I liked this movie the first time I saw it and have watched it several times over the years. It is a bit dated now, but it is an original story with a lot of good laughs. A great movie to have fun and escape for a couple of hours. Enjoy and have a laugh - it is good for your health. :)

Any other actor in the role of Eddie Farrell aka Jonathan, the housesitter, could not have pulled it off. It is as if the role was written with Carvey in mind - his antics and comedic timing were perfectly funny and in every scene he is in(which is pretty much everyone of them), i laughed, wholeheartedly. "Opportunity Knocks" is the one of the best movies with an SNL alum. If you are a fan of his characters from the show, you will probably like this movie about a con artist that uses the empty house of a wealthy bachelor to get into the lives of his family and fall in love in the process. Robert Loggia is very good as the father of both the homeowner and Annie, his sister.
I remember watching this movie over and over and laughing every time back when it first came on video. Between his karaoke stylings of "Born to be wild" and his imiation of George Bush(the first president in the family), you will be rolling with laughter. THis is a great comedy from a great comedian. I highly recommend it for a great laugh
