Plot: Robert Aldrich returns to the western-spoof genre he'd previously explored in Four for Texas with The Frisco Kid. Gene Wilder plays Polish rabbi Avram Belinsky, who intends to set up a congregation in San Francisco. Eminently unsuited for life in the Old West, poor Avram is victimized by everyone with whom he comes in contact. Salvation arrives in the unlikely form of taciturn bank robber Tommy (Harrison Ford). Incredibly, Tommy takes a liking to the feckless Avram, and together the two men embark on a series of seriocomic adventures. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This is the best comedy of all time. I dicovered it when it was released in theatres years ago. It certainly can stand the test of time. Jew or gentile, it is just funny.

I bought this movie as a gift for my uncle, so I am not sure how good this movie is. Sorry, that I couldn't help any.

This purchase (like all the other ones from amazon) arrived in excellent condition, and in a timely manner. I have not had any problems with any of my purchases thru amazon. I will continue to buy from amazon due to the quality of the products.

Disappointing

I am not sure how this movie rates as a comedy or pg. It isn't funny and it is full of foul language, including G** D*** and many other obscenities continuously throughout the movie. Our family loves comedy-westerns, Support Your Local Sheriff & Shakiest Gun in the West are 2 favorites, but this film doesn't even come close to the humor in either of those movies. Comedies should make you feel good and laugh - this movie has few laughing moments but many moments when the movie is serious and you are left feeling bad. Innocent Gene Wilder is beaten up in one scene and not in a humorous way - rather violently - punched, kicked and thrown in the dirt. He is scammed, robbed, etc. - none of these moments are humorous. His "friend", Harrison Ford, is a drinking, foul mouthed, bank robber who brags several times about his encounters with prostitutes using rather graphic non-pg words to explain these women. This is certainly not a movie for children. If you are looking for a fun comedy-western I would look elsewhere.
