Spider Camp!!
Added 8/4/2009
Campy is served when the small town of Prosperity is taken over by toxic waste induced giant spiders. A fun `B' movie that might be considered scary if you have a phobia about spiders. Plenty of cheesy lines abound throughout the film and a alien conspiracy nut who doesn't want to get the dreaded `anal probe' treatment from space travelers that never arrive. Arquette plays the same character he did in the `Scream' series and Kari Wurher taking the role as a no nonsense Sheriff. Of course one of the Sheriff's kids is a spider expert and the rest of the cast acts like a bunch of bumbling fools who I would not want with me If I were under attack from regular size spiders, much less giant ones. Special effect are great, they work well in making a believable spider unlike the fake props that they pay honor to in this movie with a brief scene on the kids TV. My 9 & 11 year olds had fun with this also so grab the popcorn, kickback and enjoy!.

I'm glad that I'm not afraid of spiders, because this movie is GREAT!

When I first saw this movie on DVD, I couldn't believe that it did poorly at the box office. That's because, in my opinion, it's a lot better than "Arachnophobia"! I like the cast members, especially David Arquette, Kari Wuhrer, Doug E. Doug & Scott Terra. I also like the city's name in which the movie is based: Prosperity. What's also neat is that various types of spiders, although most of 'em are CGI, which is also done perfectly, are used: Trapdoor spiders, jumping spiders, a tarantula, etc. Also, everybody in the crew that worked on this film, from producers and directors to composers and screenwriters, did a fantastic job. Regarding the spiders, I love the high-pitched noises that they make when they get hit or killed. There's also lots of funny scenes like when the jumping spiders go after the motocross racers. I also like the many bonus features, from the short film, "Larger Than Life", to the "Creepy, Crawly Giants" essay. The last thing that I love about the movie is it's title "Eight Legged Freaks", great name! So, I recommend this movie to anyone that isn't afraid of, and loves, spiders, or loves action-filled sci-fi/comedy movies because, believe me, it is TERRIFIC!

Eight Legged Freaks Review

Eight Legged Freaks
A very funny dark-humored movie. I had this once and when I couldn't find where it went,(it did have 8 legs you know), I had to purchase it once again.
I would say not for young children, or adults who have a problem with arachnids. Although, as I said, I find it very funny.

Have you squashed your spider today?

This is a hugely entertaining action-comedy that has lots and LOTS of arachnids, CGI, silly combats, and memorable characters. The only problems I had with this movie were that some of the puns and one-liners failed to impress, and that the nerdy kid was terribly annoying. But aside from those two, I had one hell of a good time with this film. It's not "Casablanca" or "The French Connection", but it's certainly good entertainment!
Grade: B+

I'm Shocked This Turned Out So Entertaining!
Added 2/8/2009
The only way I gave this a look was that someone loaned it to me for free. I now own it, and have watched it three times. At first, this looked like it would be a stupid movie, and it some scenes it certainly was, but it was so entertaining that I know I will continue to watch this a number of times.
What it is, is a 1950s-type sci-fi flick with modern-day special effects. In fact, if you liked "Them!" you'll get a big kick of out of this film. The difference is the much- better special-effects but some low-grade attitudes and some profanity. The characters are dumb but they were dumb in the '50s, too.
The story starts off a bit slow but once the overgrown spiders emerge, the film goes full bore and gets extremely entertaining. It's almost too much action. One needs a break! By the end, you're worn out and glad it's over. Nonetheless, it's a real fun ride with some genuinely scary parts and some whacked-out humor, too.
Since "entertainment" is the name of the game, this gets five stars even though it's not "high-class" material.
By the way, check out the black-and-white small feature that inspired this movie. It's unbelievble!
