Plot: One of the most celebrated horror films of the late '70s is given a new look in this remake, produced by blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay. George and Kathy Lutz (Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George) are a young couple who are looking for a new home, and think they've found a dream house in Amityville, Long Island -- a large and beautiful home available at a bargain price. George thinks that there must be a catch, and learns that the house has a dark history -- a year before, a man living in the house murdered his family in their sleep, claiming he was commanded to commit the crime by demons. Shrugging off stories that the house is haunted, George and Kathy move in with their three kids, only to discover that something evil lurks within the house, and even Father McNamara (Philip Baker Hall), an expert on possession, is powerless to clear the dark spirits from the home. The Amityville Horror was based on the same book by Jay Anson that provided the basis for the 1979 film, which in turn documented an actual incident. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Amityville Hunk
Added 11/18/2009

The camera totally loves Ryan Reynolds from beginning to end, it follows him around one way or another, whether up close facial shots, eye shots, torso shots, and especially shirtless shots. It doesnt matter how stressed out he is, or becomes, the camera wants hunk in this spooky shadow of a well worn story of a family taken residence in a possessed and haunted house. From the reading of other reviewers the first movie still has bad karma. Ha, ha. Well, I liked the first movie not because of its execution (sorry) in style, but by some really memorable scenes that just creeped up on you that this movie doesnt have. Like the ill begotten nun who came to visit, or the psychic woman who immediately felt an outside presence of evil from within. These are the moments good movies make because they are lasting impressions of horror in any true good horror movie. Even the trivial encounter with a dragon statue and loss of money made the first one memorable which, by the way, this movie doesnt have.
What it does have is a well stressed family, and Ryan losing his grip with reality. The visuals and incorporated spooks are the results of more formulated horror movies of recent years. So in the midst of Hellraiser, Saw, and the like, this movie should please. If not, than munch your popcorn to Ryan's wonderful bod and puppy dog lost eyes in this haunted visual nightmare.

THE AMITYVILLE HORROR

(USA - 2005)

Aspect ratio: 2.39:1 (Super 35)
Theatrical soundtracks: Dolby Digital / DTS / SDDS

A young couple (Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George) are driven from their dream home by ghostly manifestations which compel Reynolds to the brink of murder.

Less an examination of supernatural horror than a study of one man's descent into mental breakdown, prompted by unspecified forces within a house built on the foundations of murder and mayhem. Reynolds is quite affecting as the tormented protagonist in this beefed-up 'reimagining' of Jay Anson's bestselling book, though the slow accumulation of details doesn't build to a satisfying whole. Miles better than the 1979 version, however. Oh, and Reynolds gets this reviewer's vote as Hunk of the Year - his shirtless scenes are a highlight of the entire picture. Drool, slobber!!...

Is it good? Eh...Is it scary? Indeed it is...

I saw this movie in the theater and it was pretty scary. True, the theater experience adds a lot to the horror with the surround sound and what not but it's still scary in dvd form. It gave me nightmares either way 2 for 2. Ever wake up afrighted with the words "catch 'em kill 'em" running through your head? Then you turn around and see a severed head next to you. Okay, I made that last part up but The sleep was less than easy after my viewing. It reminds me of a movie version of a haunted house(no pun intended) walk a ways, bam!, skeleton. Turn the corner, big retard guy with a machete comin' atcha. It was a non stop frightfest. Not a movie for the faint of heart. This movie is guaranteed to scare.*

The Amityville Horror 2005

There are 8 Deleted Scenes in The Amityville Horror 2005 that are not in the movie. I think its stubid cutting out the 8 deleted scenes. Someday, later in the Future, I hope they will put in the 8 deleted scenes in the movie, so the movie will be uncut. I would think the movie would have been alot better with the 8 deleted scenes in the movie. the movie is 100 minutes long, but was droped down to 89 minutes long. Jamey P.S. I do think Rachel Nichols is cute. I wished I had her as a girl Friend.
