Plot: This is a standard yet uneven drama featuring Judy Garland as Jenny Bowman, a powerful singer who obviously has a passion for the stage and performing. At the same time, she once had a passion for a certain British doctor, David Donne (Dirk Bogarde), that resulted in the birth of a baby boy. Unwilling to be a mom at this point in her career, Jenny gives the boy over to David, and he raises him as though he were an adopted son. David marries, and he and Jenny go their separate ways until many years have passed and, finding herself in London again, Jenny decides to visit her son. David is now a widower, and romantic sparks fly once he and Jenny get together -- raising the question of whether her passion for the stage is still stronger than her passion for David. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Judy's Stellar Cinematic Swang Song

I can't add too much to what many other people here before me have written. I just wanted to add my own two cents to note that this movie is indeed underrated including because of its totally remastered widescreen presentation as shown on TCM tonight, 8/6/09. I'm noticing that in this, her last film, ironically this one has a very glossy, very "Metro" look. It seemed as if it could've been one made by Judy as a returning actress to MGM, if that studio had ever made it and she'd returned one more time. Not many people note that when reviewing this film. Judy was filmed, recorded, lighted, and performed in this film as good as, if not counting A Star Is Born, maybe since 'Til The Clouds Roll By or Words And Music, in my opinion.

Garland at her best~

This movie is incredible, Judy is truly at her best, a marvelous example of what made this gifted woman a legend! The musical numbers are phenomenal with all the flair and exuberance of the one and only Judy Garland, the acting top notch from all involved, Garland, Bogarde & Klugman, the banter Judy has with the audience is especially wonderful, a special kudos to the young boy who plays "Jennys" son away at boarding school, a talent to stand his own with this great lady.
I truly feel she was robbed the academy award for this performance!
A 100percent pure joy to watch and listen to this movie, this was a purchase as a gift, after viewing i sought out a copy for myself the music so much so i bought the soundtrak as well.

This movie is dated and a bit predictable, BUT, Judy is great, her acting was wonderful, especially knowing her addictions at the time of making this movie. I definitly recomend this rarely seen movie to all Judy fans!

A CLASSIC film for us Garland fans

"I could go on Singing"is like watching a reality movie.Alot of the film was method acting, and Garland re-wrote alot of the script. The last scene when she's being told she MUST GO OUT and PERFORM,and says,"The hell with them.I'm tired of being treaded like a piece of meat"
I could see why this movie wasn't at hit,but for a Garland fan,its a CLASSIC.
Judy was ridding a HUGE comeback in the 60's,with her Carnigie Hall performace, and 4 grammy awards for her #1Live album, and Oscar nomanation, and TV show, there was no stopping her.
I probally have seen this movie 10times,and still enjoy it.
