Plot: This remake of the 1956 horror classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers moves the action from small-town USA to 1970s San Francisco and replaces at least part of the original's psychological horror with special effects. Spores rain forth, unseen, from outer space, and soon strange flowers begin popping up all over the city. After bringing one of these hybrid specimens home with her one night, biologist Elizabeth Driscoll (Brooke Adams) notices that her live-in boyfriend, Geoffrey (Art Hindle), doesn't seem like himself; he's cold and distant and somehow just not quite there. When she turns to her friend Matthew Bennell (Donald Sutherland), a colleague at the Department of Public Health, he convinces her to see his friend Dr. Kibner (Leonard Nimoy), a pop psychologist who argues that the problem is all in Elizabeth's head. Soon, though, Matthew and Elizabeth begin to notice that people all over the city are changing subtly and inexplicably. When their friend Jack Bellicec (Jeff Goldblum) and his wife Nancy (Veronica Cartwright) find a lifeless, half-formed doppelganger covered with plant fibers in the mud baths they own and operate, the group of friends finally begins to understand that a sinister transformation is sweeping their city. Kevin McCarthy and Don Siegel, respectively the star and director of the original film, have small roles in the new version, as does an unbilled Robert Duvall. ~ Brian J. Dillard, All Movie Guide

Growing up, Seeing this Film, which was/is Creepy as Hell, and Gross. Although I don't think I have seen the Original, This movie is good, long but good, I hate the Ending, I could care less for the Republican putdown. The movie is eerie considering there are many obamabots who are mindlessly in love with a empty suit, So while I am not a Huge Sci Fi Fan per se,more horror really. The movie is similar to what is going on today and the sick cult like worship of celebs.the acting is good.Funny it happen in SF.

In the city of San Francisco, people seem to be acting a bit strange as even Health Inspector Matthew (Donald Sutherland) begin noticing including a married woman named Elizabeth (Brooke Adamns) who's husband Geoffrey (Art Hindle) isn't acting like himself. Elizabeth and Matthew join with a married couple (Jeff Goldblum and Veronica Cartwright) with a doctor (Leonard Nimoy) as they believe that there's a conspiracy going on, alien pods from space have arrived on Earth to replicate humans except for their emotions as they plan on taking over the human race.

A brilliant adaptation of the original novel that started it all then 1956's masterpiece, this is one of the best Sci-fi horror movie remakes ever. A very well done, scary as hell and thrilling flick with great acting, a sense of conspiracy and a creepy ending that is very haunting. Kevin McCarthy who starred in the original movie does an amusing cameo appearence, it's a thrill ride that goes to the throat.

This 2-Disc DVD set has awesome picture and sound with great extras like audio commentary, featurettes and Trailer.

The plot was weak, the acting was so so even with Leonard Nimoy. Not a real good remake.

Better Than The 1956 Original

There are few times,I have actually liked A remake better than the original;this is absolutely one of those times. As much as I loved the original,4 star film,I think this,5 star, film is better.Better in the sense,it is more terrifying, there is more suspense, and At times this film seems like A non-stop thrill ride.Plus, unlike the original, the entire cast, not just the lead star,is superb.Donald Sutherland is great as The curious Health inspector, and Brooke Adams is equally wonderful as Sutherland's assistant, and eventually love interest.Jeff Goldblum is humurous,as An annoyed novelist. And the underrated Veronica Cartwright,is great as usual,as Goldblum's wife;A health Spa owner. But to me,The Scene stealer,is Leonard"MR.SPOCK"Nimoy as A celebrated Psychatrist.Nimoy plays the character so middle of the road ,you can't tell from the beginning,if he is human or A reproduction.Great effects, genuine suspense, acute paranoia, pure terror, and An unforgetable scene with A bizarre looking dog;make this 5 star remake A classic. This film is definitely better than the original. Avoid 1994's"Body Snatchers"and 2007's"The Invasion",they are nowhere near as good,as this excellent remake.5 Stars, highly recommended for fans of sci/fi,and or horror films.

"This would have been so much easier if we had just gone to sleep"

An alien race migrates to earth in the form of tiny plant spores that deceivingly take on the form of beautiful flowers. It's not long before a group of four people begin to take note of the sudden and numerous behavioral changes of those around them, and soon uncover the truth: Humans are being replicated by the aliens through a pod-like process that replaces the person in question with an alien clone. In mere days, the four find themselves among the few humans remaining as paranoia grows exponentially and trust can be put in no one.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers does an excellent job of creating an atmosphere overbrimming with tension and paranoia. The cast is excellent featuring Brooke Adams, Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldblum, and Veronica Cartwright as the four struggling to escape the clutches of the aliens. The chemistry between them flows in a way that you don't often see, making this movie a great watch even if it didn't have an intriguing story line behind it. Add to that some top notch special effects (especially during the pod scenes), and you have a sci-fi thriller that packs almost as much bite as The Thing (Collector's Edition). There's a little something here for everyone.

Must see material for science fiction and horror fans alike.
