Plot: A resourceful teenage super-sleuth finds her investigative skills put to the ultimate test as director Andrew Fleming and screenwriter Tiffany Paulsen revive the character originally made famous by author Carolyn Keene. Upon leaving her quaint hometown of River Heights and arriving in Los Angeles with her father, Carson (Tate Donovan), precocious small-town teen Nancy Drew (Emma Roberts) enrolls in Hollywood High and discovers just how different life on the West Coast really is. A true original in the land where Rodeo Drive dictates what's in at any given moment, Nancy stands apart from the pack as much for her penny loafers as for her sincere, non-acerbic attitude and keen study skills -- all of which make the non-ironic goody two-shoes an object of scorn for fashion-conscious mean girls Inga (Daniella Monet) and Trish (Kelly Vitz). Concerns about how to fit in soon take a back seat to more pressing issues, however, when Nancy, having previously promised her worried father that she would give up sleuthing, stumbles across a series of clues that may lead her to find out what caused the death of beautiful Hollywood movie star Dehlia Draycott -- who perished years ago under particularly mysterious circumstances. Upon discovering that she and her father are currently residing in the very same mansion that Draycott once called home, the prospect of solving one of Hollywood's biggest mysteries simply proves too tantalizing for the brilliant young detective to resist. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Nancy Drew review

I liked this movie very much. It is an interesting story and one you can't guess the end. Lots of fun. The young woman who plays Nancy Drew is very believable as her character. I bought this for my granddaughters.

From classic to modern
Added 7/31/2009

As a Nancy Drew fan since about the age of 8, I had a lot of expectations for this movie. Some things were just out of sync- take the age of the characters. Nancy Drew is out of high school in the books. Ned is in college in the books. The main characters for the movie, have been made younger. (Nancy's hair is reddish blonde in the books- not red.)
New Nancy Drew still drives her classic blue roadster. Her clothes are more from the books, so she stands out. She is very smart and is a great detective. Some parts of the movie are very unbelievable, but all in all it is a family friendly movie. My nephews both enjoyed it.
I would rate it a 3 1/2 stars.

Can't Stop Watching It Over and Over!

From the first time I saw this little movie on TV, I wanted to see it again. The characters have great chemistry and I love Miss Roberts as Nancy Drew! I only hope this becomes a series...I know the actress will soon be too old, but one can only hope! By the way, I am nearing 60 years of age and watch this alone as well as with my granddaughter.

You have to make a choice
Added 6/4/2009

When you're making a movie about a nostalgic subject, you have to make a choice: Either make a parody, poking fun at the original (as the Brady Bunch movies did), or try to be faithful, at least in spirit, to the original concept. You can't take a middle road.
Yet that's what the makers of this movie tried to do. Nancy was sarcastically portrayed -- for laughs-- as a "little Miss Perfect" (which was not true to the original stories), and at the same time shown as the bright, spunky crime-solver. The combining of these two approaches mixed together about as well as oil and water.
This movie tried to have it both ways. And failed.

A 60%

I thought the movie had good action in parts of it. overall I'd say on a 1-10 scale I'd give it a 6. I thought in kinda dragged on slow. overall it was pretty good. I'd recommend it for 8-12 years of age because it's really more of a kid movie.
