Plot: After George Lazenby portrayed James Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Sean Connery returned to the tux, gimmicks, and catchphrases of Secret Agent 007 in his penultimate Bond outing, Diamonds Are Forever. Fragments of Ian Fleming's original 1954 novel remain, including the characters of the alluring Tiffany Case (Jill St. John) and fey hitmen Wint (Bruce Glover) and Mr. Kidd (Putter Smith). The remainder of Richard Maibaum and Tom Mankiewicz's script diverges dramatically from the novel, involving Bond in a scheme by the insidious Ernst Blofeld (Charles Gray) to force the world powers to disarm so that he can take over the globe. Folksinger Jimmy Dean shows up briefly as a Howard Hughes-like reclusive billionaire, while Lana Wood (Natalie's sister) participates in one of the film's edgiest cliffhangers. Agreeing to make Diamonds Are Forever only because of the money offered him, Sean Connery parted company with the role for 12 years after this film; he returned to the role once more in 1983, for Irvin Kershner's underrated Thunderball remake Never Say Never Again. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Fun action movie with good dialogue!

I am sort of new in the classic 007 films. I have watched most of the new ones, but never gave the old ones a chance. Well after watching Diamonds are Forever I will be watching all the classics now.

In this movie, James Bond is handed a case where diamonds are being smuggled and stolen out of South Africa. He is supposed to solve the smuggling riddle, however at the end he discovers that the diamonds are being stolen in order to be used in a series of deadly nuclear attacks.

Now its absolutely important to not watch this movie with the eyes of someone living in the 21st century. Try to appreciate all the efforts put in this movie and how much the director tried to make it look realistic. I mean keep in mind the technology available at that time. Don't compare it to a new 007 movie because it will just be unfair having in mind the 30-40 years difference in technology. If you think this way you will enjoy watching the movie.

The dialogue was quite great. Sean Connery does a great James Bond where he masters the given dialogue with loads of flirting and sarcasm.

International Espionage

Sean Connery returns as the inimitable James Bond, Agent 007; he teams up with the beutiful Tiffany Case(Jill St. John) to stop his adversary Blofeld(Charles Gray)from using the fortune in stolen diamonds to finance a deadly laser satellite. Exciting, entertaining, a typical James Bond film that only Sean Connery can bring off successfully. Don't be fooled by the twists and turns as the story unfolds; you know that James Bond always wins no matter how dark any chance of success may appear at times.

Sean Connery's Best Bond
Added 4/3/2009

Of the six original 007 movies that Sean Connery did, I rate this one as his best. Jill St. John is a magnicifent Bond Girl, Shirley Bassey is her usual brilliant self in the theme song, Blofeld is as sinister as any villan Bond has faced and Jimmy Dean is as eccentric as Howard Hughes. On top of that we get the deadly team of Mr. Kidd and Mr. Wint truly having a gay time of it. And Q loves those Vegas slot machines!

As a personal note, it was a relief when Connery came back to rescue the series in "Diamonds" after the disappointing Geroge Lazenby experiment. I've probably watched this movie 50 times since and still haven't tired of it!
