When are they going to make a picture and use the right actors. A black GI in Waffen SS uniforms, there wouldn't be a chance in hell that would of happen.

THE DIRTY DOZEN PLUS ONE: UNLUCKY 13 MEN ON A MISSION
Added 7/12/2008

I'm old enough to remember the #1 selling book The Dirty Dozen and to have seen the film when originally shown in theatres. Had never seen this sequel until I bought the 2 DVD set from Warner Brothers.

Though it is quite evident that this was a made for TV venture, with a more constrained budget than THE DIRTY DOZEN, the movie does what was intended: it entertains.

In the beginning Lee Marvin looks a little pale and weak but once into the movie he seems to have more energy and hits his stride. Same with Richard Jaeckel who reprises his role as training sergeant. Good to see these old cast members with Ernest Borgnine as the general in charge.

Premise of this movie, stop an SS general from killing Hitler, allies figure the war will be over sooner with Hitler screwing up than if he is killed and someone else more sane takes over. The point in the movie when Hitler appears has the audience just as surprised as the U.S. Army boys there to kill the SS general. What a choice to kill Hitler or the general? But Lee Marvin keeps them on track.

The lower budget shows at times, and the overall acting and plot just doesn't equal the original, but what sequels do? Overall this movie is no worse than most B war movies made in the late 1940s and 1950s, but it is in color where most of those were in black and white.

As long as the viewer doesn't expect too much of this pale shadow of its illustrious predecessor, it is an enjoyable movie. THE DIRTY DOZEN it may not be, but in its own right it is an "ok" war film. Well worth the watching and a good addition to the library of films with WWII as their subject.

Semper Fi.

Disappointing Sequel to a Classic Film!
Added 6/5/2006

I never saw the original which is considered a classic by today's standards. This film had one of my favorite actors, Rolf Saxon, and I was happy to purchase it from here but the tape was defective. Anyway, the film is average all around. Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine are pretty good in their roles.

The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission

The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission isn't that bad of a movie, great acting, and good battle scenes. The story begins when Maj.Gen. Warden(Ernest Borgnine) gives Maj. John Reisman(Lee Marvin) another hit-and-run mission: Kill a Nazi SS General who's wanting to kill Hitler. The Allied brass can't let that happen because they want Hitler alive, so what do the Allies do, train a gang of misfits, killers, psychos, and convicts and send them on a suicide mission behind enemy lines and kill the general. Give this movie a chance, I liked it. Hope it comes to DVD.
