Great Experience!

The seller was sooo hopeful, answering any and all questions I had by email, promptly. I even had a problem with the delivery date (bc it was a birthday gift) after I had completed my order and they changed it, no questions asked. The item arrived on time as promised, packaged securely, and the product was in immaculate condition. I would definitely do business with them again.

A Childhood Memory
Added 4/13/2009
As the new kid on the block in Peru, Indiana, the summer between third and fourth grade (c. 1964), I went with some neighbor kids to a special Wednesday morning showing of this film, alternatively titled THE BOY AND THE LAUGHING DOG, at the local movie theater. Ever since, I have longed for a Basenji of my very own, but have instead had housefuls of shelter dogs and cats, all of whom have been very wonderful and unique personalities of their own. Still, I'd like a Basenji, someday...and really, like many of the other reviewers who have them have testified, it's all because of this film. (James Street's original novel is a joy, too.)

Neglected Classic
Added 12/28/2008
In 1956, some of the great names of Hollywood came together to make a film they all could be proud of, and Good-Bye, My Lady is that film. It is still remarkable today when this kind of project succeeds, but this one really did. Look at the list: Producer, John Wayne; Director, William Wellman; the greatest character actor ever, Walter Brennan; the hottest boy actor of the day, Brandon de Wilde [Shane, Member of the Wedding], a great script from a well reviewed novel, even the rest of the cast like Phil Harris and Sidney Poitier! Others have pointed out the niceties of the script, such as when the boy, Claude, picks up on his uncle's colloquialisms, and quietly shows his respect and love for the old man by adopting these phrases into his own usage. Such a sweet film, with no hackneyed or kitschy layerings, no Disneyisms to spoil the excellence of the acting and storytelling. The only thing missing is a DVD release! Come on Warners, if people are still trading fifteen year old VHS tapes for a film with so many five star reviews, now is the time for DVD! And for you Brandon de Wilde fans, I think this was his best, and that is saying a lot, considering Shane and Member of the Wedding!

Goodbye My Lady

This is an excellent family film from the 1950's
with tender performances by Walter Brennan and Brandon de Wilde.
It even featured an appearance by Sidney Portier. Although it is in black and white, it still can captivate the viewer. this is the kind of movie that they don't make any more, but should.

Wonderful memories
Added 1/8/2008
I was a little girl when my family saw this movie on a Friday night at the Drive-in theater when it was first released, way back when. The next morning Dad found a kennel in Santa Ana, CA that had basenji's and we went to check them out. Came home that day with a petite 6 month old red and white girl. 2 years later we added a Tri-colored boy to the family. I fell madly in love with them and always wanted one but could never afford the high price tag. Last summer I discovered the Basenji Rescue and Transport website on the internet and started watching for a red and white rescue basenji female. Thanksgiving Day "Gracie" came to live with my husband and I and we are in love. I still can't believe I have such a beautiful, sweet red girl on the end of the leash when we are out walking. Thank you BRAT and thank you "Goodbye My Lady" for opening up the world of Basenji's to us! I still watch this movie and am charmed by it just as I was all those many years ago.
