Loved the actor's vulnerable and powerless role
Added 9/25/2009
This is one of my 3 favorites movies. I found Ben Jordan's (Rutger Hauer) vulnerability and powerlessness over the circumstances of his life extremelly moving. But then I love movies where men are brought to their knees by emotional pain and "rescued" by the women they have fallen in love with. Hauer is older in this movie, but extremelly sexy. At times, I found his rugged look incredibly arousing. I have never seen any of his science fiction or action movies, but the role he played in this movie is one I don't want to ever forget or spoil by other roles he may have played. The other two movies I love: "History of Violence" with Viggo Murtensen and "Captives" with Tim Roth. These three movies are like aphrodisiacs to me, but Rutger Hauer's Past Midnight is the best of all.

Keeps You Watching From Start To Finish

Past midnight is one of my favorite films with Rutger Hauer. Natasha Richardson, rest her soul gives one of her best preformances in this film. They both did stunning jobs of acting. Rutger plays a man that has went to jail for a murder he claims he never committed. Natasha plays his social worker after he is released. The movie is suspenseful and keeps you guessing from start to finish. Not only is the acting great but the storyline is wonderful. Natasha ends up trying to help Rutger clear himself of the crime but along the way she has hassitations of his innocence and runs into alot of problems along the way. If you have not seen this film it is a must see. I never took my eyes off of the television screen when I first saw it.

unconvincing

I love watching Natasha Richardson, but this is a film with a contrived plot and seems like a knock-off hatchet job. All of the actors have done better work.

Awesome movie

I decided to rent this despite the fact that it's an older film because I love Rutger Hauer. The plot has a lot of twists and turns and a surprising ending. This one is definitely easy to overlook but certainly worth seeing if you're a fan of thrillers. Enjoy.

Every week, I used to check the TV GUIDE to see if this movie was playing on WGN, the only place I could find it. I'm glad it is finally available on DVD. It has re-watchability. You think this is a love story. Then you realize it is a drama. Then it seems like a simple love story. Then it is a drama. Perfect editing! It has the same type of tension that SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY had. (That was the Julia Roberts movie where she changed her identity to escape her abusive husband).
