Plot: Everyone's favorite neurotic mafia boss (with the possible exception of Tony Soprano) is out of prison and back on the couch in this sequel to the hit comedy Analyze This. Ever since he ended up behind bars, mob leader Paul Vitti (Robert De Niro) has been in sad shape, alternately weeping like a child and singing favorite tunes from West Side Story. Fearful of his emotional stability, prison officials release Vitti into the custody of his psychiatrist, Dr. Ben Sobel (Billy Crystal), but this is far more responsibility than Sobel wants -- he's having troubles with his family after the recent death of his father, also an analyst, and has been overworked since taking over his late father's practice. Sobel becomes even more exasperated when he learns Vitti will be moving into his home, which is especially upsetting for Sobel's wife, Laura (Lisa Kudrow). As Sobel tries to get to the root of Vitti's problems -- which are very much real, even if he was faking his symptoms behind bars -- he tries to help Vitti find a straight job, which is hardly easy for a man of his temperament. And adding to all this confusion, several members of Vitti's old crew are after him, determined to insure that he doesn't pass along any incriminating information. Analyze That also features Cathy Moriarty-Gentile, Joseph Viterelli, and baseball legend Yogi Berra. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

BAD Movie. Actually 0 stars.

Poor story, and bad acting from good actors. Obnoxious behavior is used as a cover for a bad movie with bad storyline, and poor production. SHAME.

Not as good as the first one.

The storyline for this movie wasn't as great as the one for "Analyze This". This, in my opinion, made the movie so-so. There were a few scenes which were extremely funny though. I enjoyed the movie but it does not get a high rating in my book. "Analyze This" was so much better overall.

Robert DeNiro and Billy Crystal return as mobster Paul Vitti and psychiatrist Dr. Sobel. In five minutes it reminds you of pretty much every running gag from the first movie, in fine fashion. Which is funnier? That's a BS question, Joel Siegel. Both are a pleasure. This film manages to trot out the tired old "gangsters want to make movies about gangsters" gimmick without boring me. I suspect I didn't appreciate Jelly enough the first time around. He's awesome.

WHEN YOU'RE A JET...

Seeing Robert DeNiro sing I FEEL PRETTY from West Side Story in a hospital gown is quite a sight indeed. ANALYZE THAT, the sequel to ANALYZE THIS, reunites DeNiro with fussbudgety Billy Crystal in a fairly entertaining, if often times slow, comedy. DeNiro fakes insanity to get out of prison and Crystal is assigned by the FBI to treat and watch over him. It's fun to watch DeNiro fail at all his "normal" jobs and when he lands a stint as the creative consultant for a tv crime series, his expertise comes in handy for his plot to dismantle rival gangs. Anthony LaPaglia in an uncredited role is hilarious as the Australian star of the series who seeks guidance from DeNiro and Cathy Moriarty-Gentile (De Niro's costar from RAGING BULL) does well in her role as one of the gang's leaders. The late Joe Viterelli is hilarious as DeNiro's sidekick, Jelly, but Lisa Kudrow is pretty bland as Crystal's wife.
DeNiro is proving himself to be a deft comic actor and Crystal does okay too; it's all lightweight and predictable but enjoyable too.
