Plot: As a clairvoyant, Demi Moore awaits signs from beyond that her true love, whomever he may be, is waiting for her, somewhere. When New York butcher George Dzundza shows up on the tiny North Carolina island where Demi lives, she is convinced that he is the man predestined to be her husband. After the wedding, Demi moves into George's blue-collar neighborhood, where she successfully commisserates with such eccentrics as withdrawn teenager Max Perlich, frustrated singer Mary Steenburgen, unlucky-in-love actress Margaret Colin, over-analytical psychiatrist Jeff Daniels, and lesbian Frances McDormand. As Demi helpfully tries to chart the destinies of her new friends, she fails to notice that Dzundza is falling in love with Steenburgen. Though there are many traumatic detours along the way, Demi's psychic talents have very positive effects on at least one of the characters. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Light Hearted Comedy with Cute Twists
Added 9/9/2009

Demi Moore plays a naive, sheltered young woman who "dreams" the man she will marry will visit the small island she inhabits off the east coast. He turns out to be a butcher from NY. They marry quickly and problems arise as people discover that she is psychic, leading to all kinds of comical mix-ups. Mary Steenberger is terrific as a shy church choir leader who dreams of being a blues singer. Cute, silly, chick flick.

I laught out loud every time I watch this movie. It is about love, about hope, about kindness and optimism, about staying true to yourself. Watch it! You won't regret it!

Some people seem to like this kind of mindless movie.
The best thing in the movie for me was the blues singing of
Mary Steenburgen. I didn't find the idea of science meeting pseudo-psi very funny. But it is a romantic comedy and they usually make even less sense than this one where the psychic marries the wrong guy. The acting of Demi Moore is really pretty bad, but Jeff Daniels is just not much better.

Delightful romantic comedy with supernatural plotline

Demi Moore, a psychic with long blonde curls? Yes, but it works and she is charming and cute in this fun flick that is worth more than one viewing. Predictable? Sure. But who cares? It is a great way to spend a little leisure time.

I also found it funny, especially Jeff Daniels as the shrink who doesn't know that he is already in love with the butcher's wife, long before they both find out they are each other's "split aparts". In the meantime, Demi's Marina character is busy match-making the neighbors, and then her own husband!

It's Fun!!!!!!

The movie nor the actors would win Academy Awards but it's a story that's just plain fun and a "no brainer" if you simply want to be entertained. A young Demi Moore showed her potential as an actress. Performances by Jeff Daniels, Mary Steenburgen, George Dzundza and Margaret Colin were delightful. We had a good time watching this one....again.
