Plot: Pop star Joey Lawrence stars in this blend of comedy and horror about a group of college kids who get a lot more than they counted on when they head to Mexico for a good time. Film student Johnny Orpheus (Lawrence) and his buddies Paul (Nathan Anderson) and Al (Josh Marchette) decide to head down to Mexico's Rosaferno Beach for a major league party, held to commemorate the national celebration of the Day of the Dead. A Mexican medicine man persuades Johnny to try a potion that will allow him to read women's minds, doubtless a great advantage in winning the girl of your dreams. Johnny tries it, only to discover it also makes him see Hector (Rene L. Moreno), a horrific demon who has risen from hell to reclaim the hand of his former lover, Carlotta. Will Johnny be able to vanquish evil and snag a date with one of the hot babes he's met? ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

I interned as a PA on the set of this movie while I was in film school, and got college credit for it. They even had me as an extra during a classroom scene. I met the cast- they were all pretty nice but Rene Moreno was the coolest.

I'm not sure I can say much for the final outcome, but working with the cast & crew was an interesting life experience.

Fun Movie

Another good comedic horror. The movie feels a little dated in most aspects, but I really enjoyed it. The concept was generally creative, but I found the intangibles fun. The cast was pretty interesting and engaging, and the locations were fun - shot supposedly in Mexico. The final dream-like sequences were particularly effective, but a little too long running. For me, movies can be rated on several fronts - overall, quality of acting, etc. One of my most important criteria is atmosphere - how does the movie make me feel? If a movie is shot on a beach (e.g., I Still Know What you Did...), I tend to love it, even if the story is awful. In this case, those elements include a 20ish something cast, a somewhat exotic locale (Mexico, but with effective scenes that make it seem exotic), amusing humor, not annoying cast, and some generally effective camera work. I like.

STRANGE MOVIE!

I only ordered this DVD after it came up during my search of actor Tony Keyes. Tony Keyes is not in the movie at all!

Gave me a shot in the funny bones

Me and my friends saw this movie at the NY film festival two years ago and we laughed so hard through the movie. It was so funny and hilarious. So I'm glad the DVD is finally out. The cover of this DVD makes this movie looks like a horror movie, but I think it's more of a comedy movie and it plays for laughs. I think the underworld scenes are so bizarre, they are cool. Didn't care that much for Joey Lawrence but love the other main casts. My favorite is Robert Patrick Benedict, who plays a nerd in the movie. You shouldn't expect this to be a horror movie because it's not that scary. It has some supernatural elements in the movie, which I liked a lot, but it's mainly a quirky comedy with some ghosty elements, like Beetlejuice and Rocky horror picture show, but more partying. If that is what you are looking for, this is the movie to watch.
