You would think that parents would be smart enough to watch the movie before viewing with their children. It is rated PG(That means PARENTAL GUIDANCE!) . I really enjoyed this movie.

I Don't get it
Added 10/2/2009
Ok I am going to start off by saying this movie is not bad it is just average - it wasn't that interesting a story and the characters didn't really "grab" me so maybe that affected my decision. To give you an Idea of where I'm coming from, I didn't really like the movie Caroline much either, despite my trying to very hard. Once again, this is not a bad movie per se and if you collect movies like this (like i do) you might want to pick it up.

An Unexpected, Groovy Treat!

We chose to get this movie because of the actors, but our expectations were fairly low, based on many of the reviews here. Imagine our surprise when we discovered that Igor is a charming movie, full of heart and humor from the beginning!
Note, however, that this is not a movie to just "sit" the kids in front of and walk away. There is enough complexity in the characters and the story that one would want to be present to explain things as needed.
Having said that, I cannot say enough about the story line and the characters. Despite the short time line imposed on the creative team, the script was well written, the musical choices superb and the voice-over work impeccable. Although John Cusak and Molly Shannon were probably never in the same room together, it is not at all apparent in the movie, which isn't always the case. The cast boasts a laundry list of wonderful actors and performances, but Eddie Izzard deserves special kudos for his quite evil, yet not TOO over-the-top, Dr. Schadenfraude.
Is it an old story? Perhaps. Is it predicable? Sure. Does it borrow from tired cliches? Absolutely. But it is also a universal story, with a familiar arc, and characters that the viewer can identify with. And it does all this with respect, and love, which is why it feels fresh and (if you'll pardon the pun) it's alive! I'm sure we will watch this movie again and again.
The one thing that frustrates me about Amazon reviews is that reviewers often don't give readers a reference point from which to compare their (the reviewer's) taste to one's own. To that end, I will say that we are substance-over-flash people: we found Wall-E mostly vapid, condescending and heavy handed, while we watch Hoodwinked over and over for its heart, well developed characters and intelligent humor.

Horror Fams Will Enjoy

Igor is an adorable, heart-warming animated feature that's sure to leave entire families in stitches; it's delightfully morbid and features some subtle adult humor as well as laugh-out-loud slapstick to keep the children busy. I was wonderfully surprised by the "Nightmare Before Christmas" look and feel of Igor and the voice talent was exceptional.
This is an imaginative little film that really seems to have been lost in the theatrical shuffle, which is a shame because it deserves some attention. The quality of the animation was superb, the score by Patrick Doyle appropriately light-hearted and anything with John Cleese should be seen at least once..."Ni!" Did I mention Steve Buscemi plays a genetically altered rabbit incapable of dying? Oh yeah, you just know wild, gory sequences are just beggin' to happen!
Don't let the look of this flick fool you, it's not a Veggie Tales feature, this is a gory, gross, morbid, macabre and downright funny film. As I mentioned above, Igor shares quite a few similarities with A Nightmare Before Christmas, King Malbert and The Mayor of Halloweentown and Eva and Sally are nearly identical, so fans should give it a look-see. Is it a renter? Is it a keeper? I personally feel this is a keeper though the kids will probably find this a bit more entertaining upon repeated viewings than you adults.

Slow starting but well worth the time.

I had meant to see this in the theatre but never got the chance. I ended up buying it sight unseen which can be risky but I really enjoyed it. It takes some time to build up steam but once it gets there it really is quite funny and the animation is well done for a non-pixar film. I recently saw more of Steve Bucsemi's voice work in Monster House and was impressed with his work here. The comic load is mostly carried by him but the entire cast put in good effort. A very well made film.
