Plot: Better Luck Tomorrow and Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift director Justin Lin takes a comic look at a longstanding bit of cinema mythology with this mockumentary exploring the making of Bruce Lee's unfinished final film Game of Death. When martial arts star Lee died in 1973 after having shot roughly twenty-minutes of the full-length feature, director Robert Clouse vowed to complete the film using a Bruce Lee look-a-like. Though the film was eventually released into theaters in 1978, fans continue to debate just how much involvement Lee had in the making of the film nearly three decades after the fact. Perhaps viewers will never know for certain just how much of Lee they are seeing in the final product, but in this knowing satire director Lin offers a hilarious look at how things might have gone down while simultaneously skewering mainstream cinema for it's stereotypical treatment of Asian-American actors. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Needs more Action

I love the actors in this movie, but the story line in not good at all. This movie does not let the actors go to their fullest potential. It was a good movie just not action enough for me. Sung Kang, I really love and Russell Wong, their characters was not used very good and not in the capacity that I am use to seeing them in.

Solid movie
Added 5/5/2008

I was drawn to this film as I am a fan of Kelly Hu's and Russell Wong and found a very pleasant surprise in the talents of Sung Kang . I was not familiar with the works of Sung Kang even though he had been in several movies that I had seen. I will be looking for him in the future. This is a gritty caricature study made on a small budget by a very talented writer director Chris Chan Lee who got fine performances from the entire cast. I look forward to the future works of both Sung Kang and Chris Chan Lee.

It is a stylish movie. I enjoyed this movie a lot because I am a big fan of Sung Kang's, the main character in this movie. You will enjoy the short film called 9:30 came as a bonus feature of this DVD.

I respectfully disagree.

I thought this movie was slow. I understand why screenwriters make characters make stupid decisions, so that they can explore the resulting mayhem, but I thought this main character would have been smart enough not to be so dumb. This film is not one iota as good as "Better Luck Tomorrow."
I was shocked years ago when I saw Russell Wong playing a character that had a long, classic, hair queue. In this film, Russell is a dyed blond and yes, it looks a hot mess! Clearly, they wanted him to imitate one of the villains in "Rush Hour 1." This film lacked subtitles of any language. I'm disappointed.

Unexpected
Added 3/29/2008

I was expecting this movie to be kind of fast-paced but shallow, since most of the actors in it are known more for action films. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Undoing is a much more sophisticated film, character-driven and emotional, with really strong acting performances and unique visual style. The plot is interesting, although not particularly new or innovative; in fact, the story is very much a throwback to classic noir films. But its enough to keep you compelled and engaged to see the story unfold. I really enjoyed this film.

Barely a funny moment in the entire film
Added 9/19/2009

Done in the style of a 1970s mockumentary, "Finishing the Game" is based on the premise that, when Bruce Lee died in 1973 at the age of 32, he left behind twelve minutes of footage for a movie entitled "The Game of Death." Determined to bring Lee's final dream to fruition, a group of dedicated filmmakers set out to find a replacement for the star in the hopes of finishing the project. "Finishing the Game" is a fictionalized account of that search (the actual movie was released in 1978).

Unfortunately, beyond its spot-on `70s fashions and hairstyles, oh-so-groovy soundtrack and overall air of genial good-naturedness, "Finishing the Game" offers little of quality for anyone craving a good behind-the-scenes movie parody. Lacking both polish and finesse, the movie represents a major comedown for director Justin Lee after his stunning triumph with "Better Luck Tomorrow" a few years back. The half-hearted Josh Diamond screenplay scarcely makes an effort at being funny, and the concept itself is simply too thin to be successfully stretched out over even a relatively meager 84-minute-long running time.

Barely flash-in-the-pan cameo appearances by the likes of James Franco, MC Hammer and Ron Jeremy do little to support an otherwise likable cast. And there isn't even any decent martial arts action to make the movie much fun for fans of the genre being satirized.

i want 84 minutes of my life back!
Added 8/29/2009

yes, i want 84 minutes of my life back(the time it took to finish watching this sorry excuse for a movie). this movie is so stupid i'm not even kidding you. i wouldn't even recommend this to someone i hated. i have developed a high tolerance when it comes to movie viewing. meaning, i'll finish watching a movie no matter how bad it is. i must say that tolerance was put to the test here.

a bunch of wanna-be Bruce Lees come to audition as his "replacement" in an unfinished movie. about 80% of it is uninteresting interviews of these said wanna-be Lees. the remaining 20% is the actual auditions. this was supposed to be a comedy yet wasn't the least bit funny. don't listen to these other reviewers stating how "hilarious" this piece of garbage is.

please, do yourself a favor and don't watch this movie. let my suffering be worth something and keep you from suffering as well. if you like martial arts, comedies, or Bruce Lee don't watch this. seriously.

Amusing
Added 8/20/2009

Amusing mockumentary. The setup: Bruce Lee recorded 12 minutes of a new movie before dying. The studio wants to hire a double to finish the project. This is a documentary of those auditions, where we meet varying prospective Bruce Lees (some who look like him, some... not so much.)
