Plot: A passion for blues music is evident in this drama based on a contest-winning script by former blues musician John Fusco -- and featuring one of the decade's best-received motion picture soundtracks, written and performed by Ry Cooder. Eugene Martone Ralph Macchio is a classically trained guitarist who desperately wants to locate a long-lost blues song. At a Harlem nursing home, Eugene finds Willie Brown (Joe Seneca), a legendary blues man who may be able to help him. Eugene becomes part of the master guitarist's scheme to reclaim his soul from the Devil, which he sold in exchange for musical greatness at a rural crossroads many decades before. Making their way across the Mississippi Delta, the duo meets Frances (Jami Gertz), a runaway who becomes a love interest for Eugene. After launching his career with the sale of his script for Crossroads (1986), which is loosely based on the mythical character of Faust and a fable involving real-life blues legend Robert Johnson (played in the film by Tim Russ), Fusco went on to write the highly successful Young Guns (1988). ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

this is a most awesome movie. Ralph Macchio finally gets away from his Karate Kid persona. If you are into guitar rifts, you will love it! Any time someone beats down the devil, it's divine!

They Sold Their Souls to Rock and Roll

This is a pretty good film. It prompted me to research the Satanic influence on rock and roll and boy did I find a lot. I stumbled upon a documentary on youtube entitled, "They Sold Their Souls to Rock". Unlike musicians who have to follow the ways of Satanist Aliester Crowley, et al. to gain talent and fame, Ralph Macchio's character has natural talent. I figured that if Satan is into music, he must also be into politics and foreign relations and boy did I find the Secret Societies and the New World Order. Satan has power to temp and to deceive people. In fact, God allows him temporary dominion over the world. He even tempted Jesus, "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me.". Matt. 4:9. However, like Robert Johnson and the many who sold their souls for temporary wealth, fame or power, they find out too late that the bargain is unconscionable. "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Mark 8:36. In contrast, Jesus promises us the real bargain, He says, "Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." Matthew 10:39. Unlike Satan's empty promises, Jesus has already proved his by dying on the cross, paying for our sins and rising to live again.

I enjoyed this movie very much. When they finally meet the devil at the Crossroads, it makes your hair stnd up on the back of you neck. The music was great, especially Steve Vai playing Jack Butler. Ry Cooders music is always good.
