Plot: Helen Mirren repeats her role as Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison in the British miniseries Prime Suspect 2. The investigation at hand concerns the murder of a Caribbean girl. The catch: the murder took place several years ago, and only recently has the body turned up. Tennison must come to grips with the racism that probably motivated the killing, as well as the current racial tensions among her own co-workers. Helping matters not at all is an ambitious politician who hopes to turn the murder into a cause célèbre in order to get votes. Originally telecast in four one-hour installments, Prime Suspect 2 premiered in the U.S. on PBS' Mystery series. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

VERY COMPELLING SERIES
Added 1/25/2008

I bought my wife both Part 1 and Part 2 of the Prime Suspect series for Christmas. I had watched them at the time they were originally broadcast. Yet I was surprised at the excellance shown throughout each episode. As usual, the main character is a very complicated person. But this series adds an interesting element by introducing a Black officer into an all White unit, where he is definitly unwelcome. The parallel challanges to the main character and her new officer are very well done.
There is an interesting "did he do it or didn't he do it" element that has a novel twist at the end. I bet you can guess what I'm going to buy my wife for her birthday in March.

I really enjoyed the 2nd episode. It has all the original cast, and shows the transition of Det. Tennyson. Its a rehash for me, I saw all on PBS. Its great to see quality in this dumbed down world.

Prime Suspect 2 is just as well made and compelling as its predecessor. This story was especially interesting because of the race relations angle that was a focus of much of the program. Helen Mirren's Jane is not always a likable character but she seems very very real and the series really showcases what a fine actress Mirren is.

Detective Series, Quality of a well made movie

Helen Mirren is the best. I wish I had "discovered" her and this series a long time ago. Great stories without all the trappings of plastic Hollywood series.
