Plot: In this comedy, police detectives on the trail of a dangerous criminal are confronted with a new and unexpected danger: a typical suburban family. Osborn (Robert Davi) is a underworld figure with plenty of blood on his hands who, in hopes of keeping his dealings quiet, is operating out of an unassuming home in the suburbs. The police are determined to put Osborn behind bars, so rough-hewn veteran cop Jake Stone (Jack Palance) and his young partner Tony Moore (David Barry Gray) are assigned to stake out Osborn's home, and they get permission to keep watch from the house next door, which belongs to the Robberson family. However, Jake and Tony soon discover that this prime location may be more trouble than it's worth; Norman Robberson (Chevy Chase) is a dunderhead addicted to TV police shows who insists on helping whether it's a good idea or not, mother Helen (Dianne Wiest) keeps pestering Jake about why he shouldn't smoke, teenage daughter Cindy (Fay Masterson) develops a furious crush on Tony, and five-year-old son Billy (Miko Hughes) wants the cops to play vampire with him. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

One of Jack Palance and Chevy Chase's best movies - and they are perfect together in a sweet unfolding comedy of personal growth and affection. The duet on the stakeout is just the best. Highly recommend you get this one for your DVD library.

Mind Candy

This is a very simple straight forward slapstick comedy - hey - Chevy Chase is one of the leading charicters - that should tell you all you need to know - great nude scene - just funny - not an oascar nominee but for mind candy it is not too bad

if you liked classic 80s Chase, like Vacation or Three Amigos, heck, i'll even throw in Deal of the Century.... then you might think this movie really makes you gasp while reaching for your pelvic region... but then again... you could enjoy Curley with his crazy greying hair trying to relive the glory of City Slickers. but unlike slickers, this movie's "one thing" that every man must realize is that Chase couldn't even save this one, baby.

Cops and Robbersons is better than Citizen Kane

When you talk about the classics, you will now have to add this Chevy Chase gem to your discussion. Simply put, this film is the greatest work in the history of American film. People were laughing so hard in the movie theater that it was frightening. A fat woman in the back row rocked back, broke her chair, and dislocated two vertebrae. She refused medical treatment just to see how this hilarious epic ended!

Further, some people in the front row were so visibly shaken by the amazing chemistry between Chase and Palance that they started to light their seats on fire!

The fire department then arrived to try to put out the flames, but they just started laughing at Chevy Chase's brilliant physical comedy!

Luckily, the movie ended just as the flames were becoming uncontrollable! I missed some of the credits due to this large fire, but it was all worth it.

Cops and Robbersons is a must see! IT will go down as one of the classics...Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Godfather, Cops and Robbersons

Funny!

I am a huge fan of both Chevy Chase and Jack Palance. This movie is worth-while, for sure. It is Chevy Chase at his best. One of the funniest scenes was with the garage door opener. Right before we watched the movie, we had a new opener installed and had some interesting experiences of our own. So we could relate. I do agree it was almost like a typical National Lampoon movie, but that's what makes it so good. I have seen better Chevy Chase movies, but I've never seen one that I didn't like. Buy it! If you are a true Chevy or Jack fan, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I wasn't! Get it today!
