Plot: Two young lovers go on the run from the law after a convenience store robbery goes bad in this road movie. Love and a .45 centers on philosophically inclined thief Watty Watts (Gil Bellows), who believes in a little robbery but not real violence. An ill-advised collaboration with a crazed, drugged-out biker (Rory Cochrane) ends badly, however, forcing Watty to go on the run. His girlfriend Starlene (Renee Zellweger) joins him, and the two become media darlings thanks to television coverage of their flight from the law. First-time director C.M. Talkington's combination of violence and ironic attitude recalls both 1970s crime dramas and Quentin Tarantino's violent, quirky takes on the genre. However, the film's warmed-over feel may be redeemed by its irreverent tone and appealing performances, including a self-parodying appearance by Peter Fonda. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide

Tricked By Travers. Again

I'd love to know what movie Peter Travers was watching when he compared it to 'Reservoir Dogs' and 'Drugstore Cowboy' because it sure wasn't this. This film is stupid trying to pass for smart. Two white trash lovers, Watty (Gil Bellows) and Starlene (Renee Zellweger), hightail it to Mexico after Billy (Rory Cochrane), Watty's speed freak ex-partner, blows away a convenience store clerk during a botched robbery. Once across the border the two dine with Starlene's parents (Peter Fonda, speaking through a voice box, is her dad), get hitched by a goofy reverend (David Lynch favorite Jack Nance), and turn into cult heroes thanks to media coverage. Things aren't all sunny for the newlyweds since Billy, who now has an idiotic skull tattoo, is hot on their trail. He even has himself a few new partners (including Stuart Gordon favorite Jeffrey Combs). I thought the film sucked due to bad writing, Cochrane being so obnoxious and over the top and the fact that I never cared about Watty or Starlene. Zellweger is very sexy here, but she made some bad movies at the beginning of her career. (To be fair, she did win an Independent Spirit Award for this film). The only parts of the film I enjoyed featured Wiley Wiggins, Nance, Combs and the short shorts that Zellweger wears. Thanks for nothing Travers.

Better than Natural Born Killers

A must see movie for any movie fan! The new Bonnie&Clyde, on the level with Mickie & Malorie Knox. Will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

This is just a crazy movie from the beginning. It has that "Natural Born Killers" feel to it, but not as hard to follow. It mixes psychodelics, crime murder, and comedy that leaves you not knowing what emotion is really there. I wouldn't say it's Grammy material at all, but it is definately worth watching.

Classic indie

This is one of my favorite movies of all time! It has a good plot, kinda similar to true romance. If you like the outlaw love stories, with the occasional murder, and drug scenes, this is right up your alley.
